Sky owned channels 2011 EPG line-up
With Channel One and Bravo biting the dust in 2011, Sky are gonna have alot of EPG slots to fill, I can see a lot of +1's on the way, and the pointless Living Loves going too.
106: Sky One
107: Sky Living
108: Sky Atlantic
112: Sky2
113: Sky3
114: Sky Living 2
121: Sky1 HD
122: Sky Living HD
123: Sky Atlantic HD
124: Sky2 HD
125: Challenge
152: Sky1+1
153: Sky Living+1
170: Sky Atlantic+1
172: Sky2+1
173: Sky Living2+1
223: Sky3+1
224: Challenge+1
I cant see Sky giving up EPG slots, so do expect all those +1's to take over the Bravo+1/Channel One+1/Living Loves/Bravo2 video streams.

Sky1 will be at channel 170
Sky1 HD will be at channel 106
to force people to pick HD
l might be wrong, but l'm think the SD channels are staying where they are, unless you subscribe to HD.
Thats correct.
So if anyone is a subscriber to normal Sky that doesnt receive any HD Channels then you are unaffected by the change
It would make sense for Sky to put all their main SD channels as high up the EPG as possible as well as some sort of basic/logical grouping. This would make ALL their HD offerings (flipped) higher than Channel 4 HD and BBC1 HD, which are unlikely to flip due to regional variations.
This is what I think would make sense to fill all 19 "entertainment" slots currently occupied by the Sky and Living Groups. It allows for +1 channels we don't currently have, but fills the transponders used by the Bravo/Channel 1 groups. I too have dropped the Living Loves Channel in this list. I agree with the first poster as something like Sky 1+1 would probably get more ratings than Living Loves could ever hope to get!
106 Sky1
107 Sky Living
108 Sky Atlantic
112 Sky 1+1
113 Sky Living +1
114 Sky Atlantic +1
121 Sky 2
122 Sky 2+1
123 Sky 3
124 Sky 3+1
125 Sky Challenge
152 Sky Living It
153 Sky Living It+1
170 Sky 1 HD
172 Sky Living HD
173 Sky Atlantic HD
217 Sky 3D
223 Sky Challenge +1
224 Sky Challenge Jackpot
Of course, they may not add Sky 1+1 and 2+1 channels, but may introduce Sky 2 HD and Challenge HD, which would bump up channels a couple of places from the suggestions above.
Saying that, I think they would have started dropping hints about additional HD channels "coming soon" as part of their Christmas subscriber/retail push.
Anyway, just a bit of fun to kill an hour before bed for me. I guess we will find out in a couple of weeks how things will shape up, but if you want to pull my theory apart, go for it! lol
I'm not aware Sky have acquired any new channels outside the Entertainment section. That's what my post was in reference to
I think it goes without saying that Sky will flip SD and HD movie channels further down the EPG. Only the Entertainment section has channels closing and opening in January as far as I was aware.
Arrr, maybe Sky Living Loves WILL have a place then if Jackpot is going. If I was Sky, I'd use the Living Loves brand on Freeview to showcase Living/Living It to potential new customers.
Ah, I see, should learn to read threads properly...
As some of the HD channels show a different schedule to the main channel, thus some would nto be too impressed to press record for say NAT GEO based on a listing only to find they have shown something else!
I have done it myself, seen there is a programme on Discovery at 2100, simply gone into the HD EPG zoomed up to 2100 and pressed 'R' without really double checking
Nat Geo HD is now a full simulcast of Nat Geo SD, as is History and I tihnk Crime as well. Discovery isn't yet.
That looks perfect. The key objective is to get SD channels in order of importance, which will achieve the same objective for HD channels (once swapped).
My only query would be in respect of Sky 3D. I think Sky should want to get that in a prominent position in order to remind everyone about it.
Exactly where would it go? Possibly in the 121 to 125 range - eg if Sky 2+1 is not launched, Sky 3D would go on 121.
No,Sky Sports HD will stay in the Sports section of the EPG. The HD versions will move to 401-404 for HD subscribers
I don't normally get involved with fantasy EPG threads, but looking at this, one thing came to mind.
If this was the layout, after the HD switch, you would have:
106 Sky 1 HD
107 Sky Living HD
108 Sky Atlantic HD
112 Sky 1+1
113 Sky Living +1
114 Sky Atlantic +1
121 Sky 2
122 Sky 2+1
123 Sky 3
124 Sky 3+1
125 Sky Challenge
152 Sky Living It
153 Sky Living It+1
170 Sky 1
172 Sky Living
173 Sky Atlantic
217 Sky 3D
223 Sky Challenge +1
224 Sky Challenge Jackpot
This would mean that the SD +1 channels would be before the SD channels, but after the HD channels. Can't see them doing that.
So, I think you are more likely to see this corrected by something like:
106 Sky 1 HD
107 Sky Living HD
108 Sky Atlantic HD
112 Sky 1
113 Sky Living
114 Sky Atlantic
121 Sky 2
122 Sky 2+1
123 Sky 3
124 Sky 3+1
125 Sky Challenge
152 Sky Living It
153 Sky Living It+1
170 Sky 1+1
172 Sky Living +1
173 Sky Atlantic +1
217 Sky 3D
223 Sky Challenge +1
224 Sky Challenge Jackpot
Just my take.
The only argument for keeping Sky 1 further up the list for HD subscribers, it's because of recording (what with the SD channels taking up less space). However, if you've got the knowledge to do that, you'll probably have no problem finding Sky 1 on channel 170. A higher channel number is technically only useful when you're browsing for something to watch, and if I was browsing, I'd want to see Sky 1 HD and Sky 1+1 before I got to Sky 1.
Agreed. This strategy must maximise viewing of Sky channels.
The only counter argument would be to get the HD channels higher on the SD EPG in order to get HD more prominently in the minds of SD subscribers to encourage upgrades.
But if they do this it is at the expense of not maximising viewing share.
But wrong, having the SD versions way down the list makes perfect sense as HD customers don't need them.
I think you may have misunderstood what's happening on Feb 1st. For HD subscribers ONLY the SD and HD channels FLIP. For HD subscribers you don't need the SD version of the channel just below the HD version. The +1's and other brands like Sky 2 etc are more important.
Plus for SD customers like yourself having the main Sky HD offerings so high up (112/113/114 when flipped with 106/107/108) would take up valuable high EPG slots for the SD channels Sky want to aim at you.
Hope that makes sense. It's quite late!
Just wanted to know really is why do we have alot of +1 channels when i was in Australia they seemed to have rather alot of +2 now i understand that Australia has 3 time zones but i think +2 channels would be a great ideal here. What do you guys think ?
I think the theory is that most programs last either 30 minutes or more usually 60 minutes. If you put a channel on whilst surfing and see something you fancy, but it's almost finished you know it's about to start from the beginning on +1. If we had plus 2 channels you'd have to wait much longer.
Saying that When Living +2 was on air, I used it every week for Criminal Minds which clashed with so many other things I record on Sky+
It was either +2 or wait a few more days for one of the several repeats.
What is your source?
106 - Sky1
107 - Sky Living
108 - Sky Atlantic
112 - Sky2
113 - Sky3
114 - Sky Challenge
121 - Sky Living It
122 - Sky Living Loves
123 - Sky 3D
124 - Sky Living +1
125 - Sky Living It +1
152 - Sky3 +1
153 - Sky Challenge +1
170 - Sky1 HD
172 - Sky Living HD
173 - Sky Atlantic HD
217 - ???
223 - ???
224 - ???
That's a good assumption of channel placing if sky don't add any channels to use all their EPG slots, I hope sky don't dump the +1's away from their main channel. Such a pain when adding things to your planner if you have to scroll down pages to overcome a recording clash.
