It was a lovely show (as were most of the Smallfilms productions) and I always tried to catch it despite being in my late teens when it was first shown. Such gentleness and charm (the music boat always delights me) is rare.
Funnily enough I'm half way through 'Seeing Things' an auto biography by Oliver Postgate and it's just come to the making of Clangers.

it looks great , the only downside is that we can't have Oliver Postgate's voice , there's something about voice's like his and Eric Thompson .

Yes, Oliver's voice was perfect. I see Michael Palin is doing this one.

His voice can be just as cosy. I suspect he was chosen exactly for that.

No, it's stop-motion with real physical models but on digital media instead of film.

I'll check this out on iplayer and see if I revert back to childhood! Oliver Postgate was a brilliant man, but stop motion and Palin...this could work.

It takes 3 kilometres of wool to knit a family of Clangers! The knitter had to stock up on the yarn as they couldn't afford to run out of that particular shade of pink. (They need to have a new coat during the series as they get grubby - the Clangers, that is.) :D

It would be interesting to see if it could pick up an (adult) audience on BBC2 around tea-time.

I wonder if they use the original creations for it. The music was a big part of The Clangers as well, it was very good. It's just a shame they never bothered resurrecting it while Oliver Postgate was still around, he would have made even more certain the original spirit of it was kept. I doubt most even know it will be on so the audience will probably not be that much more than that timeslot normally gets.

Anyone see the Meet the Clangers short on CBeebies? It looks just as delightful as ever, but a bit bright and shiny compared with the old stuff on film. I think some of the animations are assisted by CGI in post production as it would be very difficult and time-consuming to get some of the effects I saw.
