Maybe someone can convince me otherwise but I find that sort of music and performance soulless (and the tune was a bit tuneless), i.e. fantastic technique but that's all.
YES, I have one of her albums kicking about in my loft I think. She is the Batio of the guitar world, him and her are one and the same. Complete and utter shite through and through. No doubt both can play very well, but they cannot write a tune to save their lives.
I remember reading years ago on metal injection I think it was, she was looking to get into features (like how Matt Mills did with Pig Destroyer etc). I dont recall anything coming from it, but it could be she worked with some bands I dont listen to.
Very pleased that Chantel McGregor has been mentioned, British Blues Awards Best Guitarist 2013.....the reality is that her live act is very rocking and her playing is fantastic.
I so agree with this post, she was ground breaking in her day.
I just wish she played outside the USA more as her Blues was second the none. In the USA she mostly sang Gospel.
Also agree with whoever posted Joanne Shaw Taylor, absolutely brilliant live.
Yes, but might these be the originators like Rosetta Tharpe who have been lost from the popular perception? That is, maybe they should be first on the list, because they were the first.

.
True but here she is performing at Wilbraham Road station, near Manchester in '64
I'd love to see how middle class people of that time would react to seeing this, lol.
I guess they would be horrified.
For this music to be 'accepted' it had to be filtered through mainly male, largely middle class and British artists in the 60s.

Fair enough. She does other genres though.
Most of it is pop-rock stuff like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pu1aQvm5MrU
but she does blues too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YXPNb5IdOQw
She really can play as well, not just strumming as on this one.
Was just going to mention her.

Sister Rosetta Tharpe - Didn't It Rain?
I would say go and buy the albums and let more people know.
I guess they would be horrified.

doesn't matter it's still a guitar
I thought this thread was purely for rock guitarists which is why I never mentioned Laura Marling but she is a fantastic guitarist. I'm a big fan.
