I wonder if that timid wall flower Esther McVey will replace her.

I think camron has got this terribly wrong! Underestimated public opinion and will unfortunately loose ground to labour! Why do all politicians think the public actually buy the tripe they feed us?

Cameron judgement poor in this matter. His leadership needs to be called into question.

Inevitable really. Alistair Campbell had a rule that any minister of under pressure for a week would have to go regardless of whether they were guilty or not as it distracts from the business of government.

Hopefully this will make other MP's jump and check there expenses. This is public money you lot in Westminister - You lot would be jumping up and down if someone was defrauding benefits.

She has only resigned from her cabinet post, so she will still be in the house drawing her M.P's salary and expenses.

Whole mechanism needs to go. The mp has gone after clinging on by her fingernails. Should have gone earlier. The privileges committee needs to go ,or at least reformed so the independent standards commissioner has more power and the comittee (mps) has less.
Cameron got it wrong by offering support and taking the blair approach of telling the public to leave it and move on. Catch 22 for him though. If he'd sacked her (the right course of action in normal circumstances) he'd come under criticism from Labour, trying to deflect away from their man running the committee, saying that this proves cameron doesn't want women or people from state schools on the front bench. result of that is a victory for UKIP. As conservatives knocking on doors for the eu elections next month find themselves being challenged about expenses rather than talking about europe.

Cameron would have been aware of Miliband's PM Questions. If there was even a bare mention of Miller, she would have been pushed rather than Dave being embarassed.

It will be interesting to see whether full repayment is pursued, either by Parliament or by the police.

She defrauded the system. If it was a benefit cheat they would be jailed.

Yet other ministers throw away billions of public money and get away with it.

It's not a crime, it's a breach of the rules.

A Labour MP has reported it to the police to investigate but it's not clear that it is a crime.

Damn. That means she won't be coming to Wales as Welsh secretary now?

Has she resigned as a cabinet minister or an MP?

I posted last week that if every person claiming benefits were fiddling their claim and the total amount lost via fraud is £1.2 bn. It averages an extra £22 per person. Apply the same rules to mps and the total amount they fraudulently claimed and it averages out at about £2000 per mp.

Not to mention that the man on the street wouldn't get the chance to offer a token apology, pay some of it back and carry on like nothing happened.

How public spirited of them and of course not a political stunt in any way shape or form.

She resigned from Cabinet. It's down to her town or county who she represents as MP if she stays.

Still Basingstoke MP. Election soon though. Have to see what the local party says. Could be deselected.

A bit like Mitchell then, we could have the media hound any MP out!
