Another iPhone or switch to Android?

At the risk of starting yet another iPhone vs Android slapfest, I can put it off no longer. My 3GS needs to go into retirement and I've got to decide what its replacement is going to be as my constant companion; another iPhone, or give an Android phone a go?
There are a few hard to ignore things where Android is cheekily winking at me:
There are a few hard to ignore things where Android is cheekily winking at me:
- I want lots of storage. Not cloud storage; actual storage. Upgradable memory might be a bit kludgy, but it is a lot cheaper than a big chunk of fixed memory.
- Tethering. Being on Giffgaff with a monthly Gigabag, the only way to tether with an iPhone is by jailbreaking. AFAIK, not an issue with Android (?)
- I use Google's maps a lot. And they'll always do it better on Android than on iOS for obvious reasons. And probably always better than anything Apple themselves will ever deliver.
- But mainly, it's just curiosity. Just to see what colour the grass is on the other side. To add another platform to my portfolio.
- Any new phone needs to play well with a Mac; iTunes, iCal, Address Book and ideally, AirPlay. Advantage iOS.
- Hard to ignore, the iPhone 5 is a nice piece of kit! Feels good, looks good, top-end specs in a reasonable sized package.
- Reluctance to give up my 3 year collection of iOS apps, including lots of purchased games.

Bad examples of open source, as they are all closed source.
Google != open source
OS X natively supports syncing with GMail (including address book) and Google Calendar with the standard Contacts, Mail and Calendar apps on OS X.
I already use GMail and sync address book, but I've never tried Google Calendar. There'd be no 'gotcha' to look out for?
At the end of the day it'll boil down to your personal preference, despite anything anyone on here says.....
