Job vacancy - extended application deadline

Hi, I applied for a position last week on the closing date. I haven't heard anything back apart from an automated email stating that they had recieved the application however I have checked today & the advert is still online however it states that they have extended the deadline by a week.

Does this mean that all applicants so far are disregarded or is it simply as they do not have enough applicants & want to add more to existing ones before holding interviews :confused:?

    Could be either or neither. No one can tell you.

    Maybe they don't like any of the applicants.
    Maybe they want a certain amount before looking
    Maybe the person doing the selection is on holiday so they decided to extend the deadline.
    Maybe they have other work on meaning they can't devote the time to recruitment so are extending the deadline till they do.
    Maybe the person doing the selection is off ill...

    I wasn't asking the exact reason I know forum members are not psychic, I was asking for advice from people who may have experience of this process & why it would usually be extended. Thanks for your help though :)
