Best #2s in the UK Singles Chart - that should have been #1?

My votes go to:

"Vienna" by Ultravox

"Love The Way You Lie" by Rihanna and Eminem which was ironically the best selling song of 2010!!

"Crazy For You" by Madonna (runner-up twice!!)

A bit early yet but "All I Want For Christmas" by Mariah Carey.

I Believe in You, Confide in Me, Love at First Sight, and Better the Devil You Know by Kylie. Before I got into charts I thought they all hit #1 lol so they should have been #1.

Also Ray of Light by Madonna too.

It has to be Strawberry Fields Forever/ Penny Lane (double A side) by The Beatles. It was a travesty that the greatest single ever released never got to the top spot.

    That one brings to mind

Geri Halliwell - Look At Me

I remember she only missed out on the #1 as her record company never distributed two formats for the single only one therefore Boyzone beat her (they had the regular two CD/cassette formats)

If she had had two formats she'd have likely had five consecutive number 1 singles on her own - quite a feat.

Stand By Me was released a few weeks after Princess Diana died. It was kept off the top spot by that awful Candle In The Wind re-release!

The most recent one for me would be All Of Me by John Legend, nice to have a piano ballad top the chart instead of the average garbage club track dominating this year

I'm pretty certain that Brown Sugar by the Stones only got to No.2 in the UK, though it was top of the US chart. That would definitely been a worthy chart-topper.

    My picks from 1990 - 1999

    1990 : Alannah Myles - Black Velvet
    1991 : Seal - Crazy
    1992 : Ce Ce Peniston - Finally
    1993 : Haddaway - What Is Love ?
1994 : Mariah Carey - All I Want For Christmas Is You
    1995 : Pulp - Common People
    1996 : Bluetones - Slight Return
    1997 : Natalie Imbruglia - Torn
    1998 : Steps - One For Sorrow
    1999 : Offspring - Why Don't You Get A Job ?

All poptastically, lyrically-blessed songs deprived of a UK #1.

Yup, it was cruelly kept off the UK #1 by ' Dawn - Knock Three Times '. :(

    Moves Like Jagger.
It was stuck at #2 for 7 weeks, behind Example's Stay Awake, Pixie Lott's All About Tonight, , 1D's What makes You Beautiful, Dappy's No Regrets, Sak Noel's Loca People, Rihanna's We Found Love from which the bolded ones are flops in comparison to MLJ

Good call! Moves Like Jagger outsold every one of those songs in the long run though, so I guess Maroon 5 had the last laugh.

It was outsold by Olly Murs and only just it still sold 86,000 copies in it's opening week :).
