Scots actor Gerard Kelly died suddenly after collapsing at his home, it was announced today.

Kelly, 51, from Glasgow is understood to have taken ill at his home in London on Wednesday.

A spokesman for his family said today he died "peacefully" at West Middlesex University Hospital at 9.35pm last night. His close friends and family were with him when he died, the spokesman said.

Kelly is understood to have suffered a brain aneurism.

The spokesman said: "Gerard will be deeply missed by his friends and family and indeed his huge fan base across his beloved Scotland and further afield.

"He was a private and gentle man and his family and friends would appreciate privacy during this sad and difficult time."

He was due to star in The Rocky Horror Show at the King's Theatre in Glasgow next month before beginning his regular pantomime run.

Kelly was a well known face on television in Scotland with roles in Taggart,City Lights, Rab C Nesbitt and Scotch and Wry.

He also was in the soap Brookside as the villian Callum Finnegan & made three appearances in Ricky Gervais's Extras as the character Bunny

A spokesman for the hospital said: "We can confirm that sadly Mr Kelly passed away last night at the hospital."

I've enjoyed him in Panto for years and he was so good in Extras. I have tickets for Snow White this year at the Kings in Glasgow in which he should have been starring in. He'll be sadly missed.

Such a tragic loss, particularly so suddenly, at a relatively young age.

He had the energy of a twenty year old when he bounced on stage shouting "Hiya, pals!"every year.

Everyone from 2 to 92 left his shows with a spring in their steps and Gerard's special singalong song in their hearts.

A true professional and a real gentleman of the theatre. he will always be remembered along with the greats of Scottish comedy - Rikki Fulton, Jack Milroy, Jimmy Logan and Stanley Baxter, to name but a few.

There's a huge chasm to fill. R.I.P.Gerard Kelly.

I saw him not long ago as the narrator in Rocky Horror and he looked like he enjoyed himself!

I remember him as the baddy in Brookside who was buried under the patio:

Not under the patio - that was Trevor Jordache.
Barry Grant locked his character Callum Finnegan in a freight container at the docks.

Gerard was a very versatile actor, and very funny indeed in Extras.

A real shame, shocking news. He seemed a lovely guy, the Kings panto won't be the same without him. He was a link with that older generation of Scottish entertainers that has almost vanished now.
