* Correction that's supposed to be Ebuyer have a AMD A4 Zoostorm Desktop PC for £149.99 but has no operating system.
PC World would never have a PC that cheap.
Zoostorm are ok for the price, i sorted one out last year for someone and we put linux on it and it works really well. Depends what you want to do with it mind you, don't expect it to compete with say a £500 machine.
The reason it was picked was because there was no OS on it.
Vista! For his sanity's sake he should try and get one with Windows 7 then rather than Windows 8. Only trouble is W7 desktops are hard to find unless you buy online or from one of the companies advertised in the likes of PC Pro and Computer Shopper. I certainly wouldn't recommend Acer to anyone after my dad's experience. He had a laptop and it snuffed it after only two years so I've been weary of their products ever since.
Try PCSpecialist.co.uk for customisable pre-built AND wholly customisable systems.
I agree with GamerGirl. I'm on my 4th PCSpecialist desktop.
I've always found the company helpful (pre and post sale). And the web app in which you 'build' your computer tells you if your chosen bits and pieces won't work together. But even this is pretty rare now because the system is smart enough to only offer you bits that work with other bits you've already chosen.
Give it a try - it's fun to build your own computer and play around with stuff to get as much kit as you can for your money.
There is a bunch of options around build time and delivery speed to suit all wallets and/or levels of scroogery
And they offer various warranty options to suit everyone, from those who like to fix things themselves right through to people who freak out at the first sign of something awry. You can even get them to come around and set the thing up for you right there in your own home.

Amazon still have a few listed with Windows 7 or no operating system.
Or if you feel confident maybe build your own PC as megaresp suggests.
Don't buy from PC world or outlets like that, you can get really cheap desktops online there are some great sellers on ebay, I buy all my components from certain sellers there.
Don't forget to factor in if you need support how quick they will turn up to replace a dead drive etc as some of the cheap box shifters will just have you to return it to their HQ and they'll fix it and ship it back but it can easy add a week or two to your downtime, its all right if you can just get them to ship you the part next day and you can do it yourself but if you don't know one end of a screwdriver from another then be prepared from potential hassles so a physically local company may be better when you can drive their and get it fixed while you wait or swapped out for a new unit etc
There is also Overclockers.com who sell a few pre-built systems but they're really best for people who want to build their own system from the case up.
Very good company to buy from. I have bought a number of desktops from them over the years and they have never let me down. Nicely built PCs with good quality components.
I've started buying business refurbs from certain companies on ebay (I've mainly used a company called compuclear)..If your not in the market for anything super powerful, and just need something cheap and cheerful that does the job then they are a good place to go to, plus with compuclear their after sales help and support has been excellent.
Ok they came with a shortish warranty but that's the gamble with refurbs sometimes
So far I have bought 5 x HP dc7700 (4 for a charity and 1 for me) and an elite 8000 (for me) and they are running smoothly 2 years on.
Just an idea..
A good idea to be honest, i know someone who got a refurbished machine a couple of years back and it is still going fine, only needed it for office work.
I have no idea which one is best? does anyone know? I need one that I can plug USBs in, that has DUAL layer burning for disks, that already has an operating system.
Can anyone help? My budget is less than £400 really.
I was also thinking of getting a Photocopier that scans, prints, can send faxes and that I connect a Bluetooth Dongle too it and USB Sticks. Also one that I can get compatible ink too it that wont cost loads. So I was looking at this one?

Get the Dell Vostro. Decent, solid PC and good support.
My choice for a cheap dekstop right now would be a Dell Vostro 270 which has an i3 processor, 4gb ram and 1TB hard drive for £263 delivered plus some possible quidco cashback. It has a 2 year warranty too with a cheap 3 year pro upgrade for £40 which is way better than you'd get from PC Hell /Currys
It's from their small business section (so prices are shown exc vat) but the end price of £263 is incl vat:
I was going to buy this one but it has sold out now, does anyone else have any recommendations at all? The PC I have right now only has about 3GB and is way too slow so I want one which can take upto atleast 8gb?

It's not surprising it's sold out as the last post in this thread was 8 months ago!
Take another look on Dell Outlet and see what's available.

Thanks, just when I was ready to buy it it has sold out, well I have seen another but its like £370 but my budget is like £300, most important thing is its able to have alot of memory and take alot of GB, and it already has an operating system.

When I was putting together a PC recently I found the prices for PCS and Scan were pretty much identical.

OK it's Windows 8 but if he doesn't like the interface Classic Shell will soon sort that out
It would be helpful if newlight1 posted again to all these responses

What are peoples thoughts on that and if it can do what I need it to do?
Again, thanks all for your help...most appreciated.

that price is ex VAT
It's often much cheaper to upgrade the RAM yourself after purchase.
Not been impressed with any of their after sales service.
Thinking of this one?

Something like this seems better:

Thanks for that, do you think its ok being a brand I have not heard of? would it be better to stick with a Dell?
With this one you mention, is it a i3 or above?
ZooStorm are fine - been around along time. Most insides of any PC are all pretty similar to one another anyway.
It's an AMD processor so notan i3/i5/i7 Intel etc.
