  I got an iPod for Christmas and have been trying to figure out a way to put some of my dvds onto it. It would help with the long journey on the train!

  I'm not sure if it rips directly from a DVD but if it doesn't there are other free programs that do.

  i use:
  
  dvd shrink - to rip the dvd to my hard drive
  
  jodix ipod video converter - convert and tag the ripped vob files
  
  both are free, dvd shrink is as most people know freely availible and jodix can be found here

  I know about the ripping but this supposedly just records straight to the iPod which sounds great. Anyone got one?

  Thats a really good product, its a good way of getting round the way apple treats itunes in the UK. I dont like the ipod video it scratches far too easily and looks a mess after a few months.
