There's a Dickon in The secret garden so it's hardly a new fangled name.

    Suckdeep is my favourite.

Poor guy, his parents really didn't think that through.

(It was really Sukhdeep, but we all know how you're gonna pronounce it.)

I don't mind it actually - I've heard worse (don't know what that says about me :o )

Threads like these always make me smile and want to post my brothers' ridiculous full names.

I knew someone who called their child Dai. Not overly bad, especially considering their surname was Mund.

My mate also went to a school with a lad called Ben, but his surname was Doby. Needless to say, it took the kids all of 3 seconds to bastardise his surname. I didn't believe him until he introduced me to the lad himself when we were in town one night.

Not at all. Their are lots of non 'chavvy' people who give their kids stupid names as well.

It always amuses me when some people call their kids after celebs or characters from films, tv shows etc - as though they somehow think that will make their little stars, real stars. In their dreams!

Hmmm - I feel it is done by some who are afraid their kids won't stand out in life. It makes them stand out for all the wrong reasons IMO.

I agree. Often more of a handicap than a benefit.

All names should be provisional until about age 16

At that point, a person should be allowed to change it to whatever they wish

I think all names should need to be approved by a governing body so that kids don't get given ridiculous name. It's unfair on the children when they get made fun of for having idiot parents.

That wouldn't solve the problem of being made fun of in school though, by 16 the damage will have been done.

There was a birthday card sent in on CBeebies the other day for a child called Jacub. Not sure whether it was an attempt to be different or the parents' inability to spell.

Very soon a schoolteacher somewhere is going to say 'Jaden' and at least half the class will raise their hand. :(
