Rob McElwee, Tomasz Schafernaker and Philip Avery will all move to back-office roles.

- Lose World Athletics Champs
- Lose first two days of US Masters
- Byford out, position closed
- Director of Marketing out, position closed
- Now this
Maybe due to employment legislation around maternity leave?
Or maybe just coincidence.
Or maybe because there are not that "many".
Or, more likely, this part explains more:
So true i did open a thread about BBC using pregnant weahter girls a while back.I said they should work in the back room and not live on tv
Yes, and your discriminatory stance coupled with an obvious personal issue with pregnant women was roundly condemned, and quite rightly too. I would hope that I am not alone in finding your attitude towards pregnant women rather distasteful.
I'll remind you that this thread is not about pregnant women either.
Thanks for posting this. I posted this information in the TV Programmes forum and wanted to post another thread here, but thought it might look like I was spamming.
I think its terrible that we're losing Rob Mcelwee from our TV screens. The mans knowledge and experiance is second to none. He actually tells you the weather like a grown up talking to another grown up. He is the final throw back to the glory days of BBC weather when the forecasters were genuine scientists first and foremost. Guys like Bill Giles, Michael Fish and Ian Mcaskill.
A very, very sad day.
So true but it is a bit sexist that the BBC move three male presenters, after all its about equality
When the BBC launched a 24 hour news service, I hoped they would give the weather team a bit more time then they do on BBC1. How disappointing it is that they often get cut short or even cut off so the BBC can show trailers just before the hour.
Shame about Mr Schafernaker too but not surprising after his on screen moments. I bet Simon McCoy will be most disappointed to lose his sparring partner.

Read my post above, especially the additional part taken from the DM article - it explains more.
There must be something in the air
Not surprised @ Schafernaker - loose cannon who has been unprofessional on air.
McElwee will be a loss. He is the only one [as another poster has already said] who actually treats the weather as a science rather than as a 21st century valet advising people what to wear.
Sounds like a typical BBC management fudged excuse to me , if it's the true reason.
Uproar on Netweather about this and understandably so. Perhaps they should have asked the viewers who they liked first before shunting a legend like Rob to a back-room role??
