  Can't stand it myself, me and the husband have never celebrated it, well hubby bought me flowers, chocs and a card the first year we were together cos he thought that he would get into trouble if he didn't ......but he soon learnt I'm not romantic in the slightest. Forced romance is even worse >:(

  I was in the card shop today (buying a leaving card for a colleague, not a Valentine's card) & there are Valentine's cards for dad, mum, gran, son, daughter etc as well as the usual 'to the one I love' cards. That seemed odd to me, it's supposedly a celebration of romantic love, not familial love.

  Of course it is stupid, inented just to rip off young couples.
  Originally it was just a day to send a person an anonymous card so that you could declare your love to them, but now it has been bastardised and twisted and couples feel that they have to make an effort simply because of the date

  Agreed. I am single, but I still think that if you are in a relationship, you should treat your partner because you want to and not because you think you should as it's Valentine's Day. The fact that the day exists at all just creates a potential for that disagreement among partners who might be very well suited in other ways.

  It's over-hyped nonsense.
  The wife and I used to celebrate it by going out on a 'date' but we don't bother going out for it now.
  Now we just a get a takeaway, bottle of plonk and get a movie off of Sky or something.

  We don't celebrate it.
  
  Although it was when we conceived our baby a few years ago (we were "trying", it was a fertile time, nowt to do with it actually being Valentines Day. I had our baby on 14th November exactly 9 months later )
  
  We may watch a film or something but more because it's a Friday than it being 14th Feb.
