Just a few years ago they could have had anyone they wanted to judge.

Fast forward to 2012....and they'll take just about anyone.

The ONLY credible way to have The Shirtswinger as a judge was to move her from the US show - a Simon shuffle. This way, it reeks of last resort for both parties.

I'd rather have Paula Abdul FFS!

i was thinking that earlier to be fair. she certainly has a better track record at judging on talent shows.

They still can have whoever they want, it's all the more baffling why they picked SHITSLINGER. She is the abso worst.

After what she did on UK XF, they are right, she knows what she's doing. On the US one...well.

I agree with everything being said on here. On the uk version sh was great and knew what she was doing.... then when she did the US version.... she just sort of messed it up for herself

    - Dannii getting stick for the whole Danyl saga
    - Sharon Osbourne being sacked/walking and constantly bad mouthing Dannii
    - Louis being fired, re-hired and made out to be a joke every season
    - Tulisa's 'bullying' accusations and backlash
    - Kelly being disliked and the whole 'illness' thing made her look like a joke
    - Nicole being booed and hated in America for sending home that Rachel girl
    - Geri Halliwell being booed at guest auditions
    - Numerous big names criticising the show and laughing off reports they were linked as a judge (Mariah)

Looking at that list, why would any star want to join the panel? Why would they want to sit there for months and be constantly put down and mocked by the press, having to take part in a joke singing contest?

Very true - Also, Cheryl being called racist over Gamu and being persecuted for calling out Wagner; women being judged on their looks rather than their abilty whilst that ugly, hairy monster Cowell sits looking as hideous as ever whilst the females are expected to be perfect and to be rivals over age, dress sense, attractiveness etc

The only way they could have a bigger name was to pay them extremely well. Nicole is said to be on £750,000 and no show anywhere is going to hire a big name for that kind of money. People like Cheryl, Dannii, Tulisa and Kelly weren't exactly A Listers when they were signed on for the show.

Dannii Minogue, Tulisa, Cheryl and Sharon all got huge career boosts from it. They became more famous than they ever would have been, it opened new doors for them and made huge amounts of money along the way (not so much the case for Sharon - she was loaded anyway). Whether you get insanely famous from X Factor or something else, there's always going to be a mixed reaction from the press at times. All 4 I've mentioned had a real mix of good and bad press.

Nicole, of course, got a brilliant reaction in the UK first time around which gave her some rare success in her solo career.

They still could get anyone to judge if the price was right and they were given enough notice. They can't expect to get a big name like Katy Perry when she'll undoubtedly be very busy later on in the year.

ITV just don't spend the cash because it isn't worth it as they can get high ratings without the big names, but if the American equivalents are Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera (American Idol, X Factor, The Voice) then theres every chance they could get someone equally as big here. They just choose not to.

But Scherzinger is a big enough name considering her uk history and XF us XF know they're lucky to have her that's why they're offering her so much money.

Also, it's a huge commitment. It restricts an artist's ability to go on tour, do international press etc.

Also, I think Jessie J has had a had time in the press since her stint on The Voice. Say what you like about Jessie, she doesn't really need to do the show.

But it depends on what sort of star you are. A listers don't want to know, but up and coming stars will do the show. Both Tulisa and Cheryl are having solo number ones off the back of the show raising their profiles.

So why scrape the barrel with the Greek bird and bore Barlow?

Gary Barlow is a huge name in UK music and his signing was a big coup for the show. Personality wise he may have fallen short of people's expectations but that doesn't take away from his star status. Tulisa isn't huge but I can see why she was signed, to appeal to the younger, more urban audience. And she turned out to be a good mentor and pick good songs so she was a good call.

i think the producers of x factor want to make stars out of their judges rather than get the stars in, Dannii, Cheryl & Tulisa's popularity and media interest x10 when they joined the show and it make them MUCH MUCH bigger stars!. think how many people knew tulisa this time last year compared to now.

I agree with this rickster,The producers of X Factor have always wanted judges they can make into stars it seems to be working with Tulisa.
