Hey all,

I'm enjoying watching the reruns, but is it just me or are these severely (and very badly) cut-down?
There are some scenes missing and sometimes, the audience laughs at the wrong time and stuff...

Why E4, why?

bad language - blame Ofcom. there are some early episodes which have never been seen in daytime due to content, but they are few and far between.

    Bad language?

    Are you serious?

The two "scenes" that I have noticed weren't there are when Rachel says to Ross "Grab my a*s" and when Chandler is freaking out about getting married (where Ross and Phoebe find him in his office) and she says something like "Good old Chandler with the homophobic jokes" or something like that...

It's a shame really, why not show it at a later time then?

Yeah - but in one episode - 'The one with the Male nanny' they cut out a scene where all that ahppens is that Monica talks to Phoebe about David, and Phoebe makes a relaly good joke about irony - no bad language

Also, in the same episode, they cut out one of the funniest scenes in the whole of the show, where Chandler asks Joey to talk about firetrucks so he can make a joke - no bad alnguage there either - pointlerss ruining of funny episodes

Could it be E4 wanting more "advertising time"?

When E4 commissions shows it asks for them to be around 23 mins 30 secs. Most Friends episodes are below that.

Some episodes, especially in later seasons were made longer so that Friends overran on purpose to get ahead of Survivor. Perhaps these were such episodes.

Channel 4 claim they never have and never will cut a film due to time, only because of content. It would be strange if they didn't extend this pledge to tv shows.

But didn't Friends go out during the 8pm-9pm slot in America? And as we know, America television is a lot less risqué than British TV.

Well I'm guessing there must be some system similar to ours. But to be honest, whatever the system, it still doesn't allow for shows broadcast at 10pm to be anything like our primetime shows. ABC wouldn't even let a naked backside be shown on Desperate Housewives. Unbelievable...

There is only 1 episode that cant be shown

"The one with the free porn" - Series 4

This episode is always skipped on E4/C4....last time it was on C4 it was at 12:35am !

This episode is the only one that recievs a '15' certificate on the dvd/video, all the rest are '12' and 'PG'

Every other episode is just edited to remove strong language, references to sexual activity/pornography and druge use

That is ABC being catious, they can show more risque content after 10.
But the US is in a way far more free than our TV system, shows like Friends were allowed to talk about sex, drugs... before 10PM because like all shows they have the TV-rating, Friends was usually a 14 I believe. In recent news CBS was fined a huge amount for showing a scene depicting a teen orgy before 10PM, although some believe it would have been fine to show after 10.

What about the episode with Joey's porn, as in when he was in porn? They kind of do a commentary on it.

Anyway was watching it earlier and Phoebe was lusting after a massage client and I think some of that was cut, and then later she is fired because they think shes a **** and a lot of that discussion is cut.

"So why did you leave you're last job?"
"Because they thought I was a [silence]"
    [laughter]
    "Okay..."

But those issues are confronted head on every weekday in our soaps and pre-watershed dramas. So I wouldn't say they were more free at all.

Really? Odd. I remember that scene is played during the credits, so maybe the only reason they didn't cut the scene is because they have to show the end credits.

Couldn't stand Friends the first time round let alone the 54th repeat on C4. If they are cutting some of it why don't they just cut it all together and do us all a favour.

Or alternatively, press the off button on your remote/change the channel, and let the rest of us watch it in peace. :)

Yes - but the episodes of Friends stay intact in syndication - we are a lot more cautios about dirt in sattelite reruns for some reason.

What I didn't understand is why don't they stick a "genric friends dancing " credit onto the end of that episode if it is against some regulation to transmit that word at that time of day

Instead they dip the sound so that either you A remember what the word she said was from seeing it on first transmission or more likely B work out from the context of the story what the word she said is

Either way what is the point of leaving the scene there except to thumb their nose at reguators who say you can't transmit that word at that time of day (but we ,C4, will leave you all the clues to work out the word)

I actually saw an episode that I had never seen before, couldn't believe it: "The One with Joey's Girlfriend".

E4 cut out the word "h****r" in yesterday's episode...I'm sure they've mentioned it before in other episodes at the same time...

I cant work out word thats supposed to be :o
but some times words are cut because of the context there being used

    for example 'Bitch'

"You Bitch" - Fine, Left in

    "Son of a B****" - Edited out
