I Wonder who will take over from the great Mr Matthew when he retires from Sounds of the 60s?

Any thoughts?

Yes I did, I'm sorry to say.

When is he retiring OP? Well into his 80's now isn't he, and a wealth of knowledge.

    Yes, I did.

85 and still going strong and the show is always a pleasure to listen to.
Johnnie Walker would be the obvious choice but feel it may be Roger Day when the time comes to retire.

Yep I did too. I can't imagine him not doing it. Maybe they could wheel Jimmy Young back out to do it but I believe he's even older!

Now that would be an inspired choice. he's knowledgeable, friendly and enthusiastic and young enough too.

As I have said I think in a post on another subject earlier this year, the obvious choice would be Johnnie Walker but I feel it will be Tony Blackburn and the reason why?. Well Brian is 85? so could still in theory be presenting in 5 years or so where as Tony was 71 back in January.

If Brian is still presenting for at least another 4 or 5 years it will then be the time when sadly Tony will be moved from live radio to recorded and so I feel it will be Tony taking over with someone else taking over Pick of the Pops.

It will almost certainly be voice tracked by some hip celebrity with absolutely no knowledge or interest in 60's music.

Seriously, I would think he would be better suited to a 70s show, or even 80s

Would the thread title not have been prefixed with RIP if that was the case?

Whoever takes over the Saturday breakfast show and SOTS will be two entirely different programmes.

Yes me too. I think he will go on as long as he can, like David Jacobs did.

Desmond Carrington is 87, while Brain Matthews is 85 and both going strong, and long may they continue to do so. I love both shows.

If only. Bob Shennan is more likely to go for Piers Morgan!

If it's some useless celeb, rather than a proper DJ, I'd rather the programmes ends when Brian is no longer able to do it.

Not necessarily. Plenty of others thought the same.
