    Regeneration

is also an excellent film. Based on the novelist Pat Barker's trilogy, this film highlights WWI soldiers' suffering shellshock and its after-effects, and how they were sent to an asylum in Scotland.

It also portrays the poets Siegfried Sassoon and Wilfred Owen, who were also sent there.

Is there a scene in that where Russel Crowe's character says to a lady 'shall we just f**k?' Suggesting he does not to go through the ritual of getting to know her and flirting. Very romantic.

Melancholia did a good job of portraying a person's struggle with depression.

Mike Leigh films usually deal with people whose mental health is fragile:

    Another Year
    Career Girls
    Life Is Sweet
Naked (is the most extreme example)

Requiem For A Dream (Ellen Burstyns character... Hard film to watch for many reasons)

Interiors by Woody Allen deals with a mothers depression after her husband leaves her for another woman.

The Three Colurs film trilogy by Krzysztof Kieślowski, particularly Blue & Red and his tv series based on the Ten Commandments. One of the commandments A Short Film About Love was released in cinemas and perhaps the best regarding loneliness and obsession.

    The Hours

Some of John Cassavettes films have too, but I can't remember the ones, perhaps Love Streams? It's too late at night!

None of these, with the exception of Life Is Sweet, are easy going, but all are very insightful rewarding films to watch, and none take the easy route storywise.

''One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest'' was pretty original and insightful when you look at the supporting characters. The filmmakers made sure to avoid cliche and parody, and it worked very well emotionally.
