    Guess what? I DON'T CARE!!

This country is in a mess because of so-called "tolerance" of life's victims. Junkies are authors of their own misfortune. Their self-inflicted illness is not my fault and should not therefore be my problem.

    But they aren't your problem.

You, yourself have admitted that they haven't done anything wrong. Therefore you have no cause for complaint until/if they do do something in the future. Of which you have no cause to believe they will.

Get on with your life and stop worrying about what others are doing.

I'm really not a WUM. My complaint is completely genuine. When I moved in all of the flats but one were owner-occupied and there were no problems whatsoever. Everyone took pride in their homes and were respectful to each other. Now at least half the flats are rented (1 privately, 2 local authority) and we now have two sets of young party-loving couples who drive me crazy with their smoking, drinking and hordes of chavvy mates and the junkie shower who were preceded by the fat chav single mother.

To those who say that they would rather have junkies as neighbours to myself - a quiet (except on here, granted) well-mannered and respectful individual who helps my neighbours out - are living on cloud cuckoo land. Are your left-wing pro-life's victims attitudes really so entrenched that you would suffer the consequences of living next to drug addicts, reformed (supposedly) or otherwise?

So things have changed, one minute they haven't caused any bother, but now you're saying they drive you crazy with their smoking and drinking etc.
    Are you talking bollocks?

You might want to look up those words in the dictionary because everything you have said is to the contrary.

And so far from what you say there are NO CONSEQUENCES living next door to them as they haven't actually done anything wrong!!

besides I shall state again, ITS YOUR FAULT FOR BUYING A FLAT IN A COUNCIL BLOCK.

Should have chosen your flat more carefuly really.

    Prolifers are really right wing!

Anyway I am a right old lefty head I am and I get where you are coming from. It's hard when you have saved up to buy a place and after you are settled in things change. You thought the flats you were living in were one way but they've turned out to be different. I can see why your goat is got.

But (and you knew there was one didn't you?) this is the problem with flats, at least they are trying to get off the gear and hopefully make a better life for themselves.

If they haven't actually done anything bad why not try being a friend and neighbour to them as you would others in your block. I reckon you could do it!

I am now at my wits' end with the fast declining state of my block of flats.

I bought my flat in 2003 and take great pride in it. It's my little place of sanctity from an all too stressful world.

The flats in the block are all ex-local authority and with one exception were owner-occupied. Now, one of the owners has moved out and let her flat to the council and we've had a series of undesirables from tatooed fat chav teenage mothers to the latest shower of junkies. To be fair they haven't actually caused any bother yet, i.e. no needles in the stairwells or abusive behaviour. They are just known to be junkies (ex heroin, now methadone) and tick all the boxes of the stereotypical smackheads. There have been some dodgy characters visiting their flat - usually during the day when most of us are at work (I've seen them because I've been home for lunch). Shockingly, they have a small child whose future is surely doomed.

Do I really just have to put up and shut up or do I have the right to protest to the Council?

Call me judgemental and intolerant but I've worked darn hard to afford my own place and pay a small fortune in mortgage and council tax payments every month. Why should I have to put up with free-loading junkies having it all handed to them on a plate? Some people just don't deserve tolerance and understanding.

    Jesus Christ on High!

I don't know how you've coped in such a living hell.

They allow fat people to live there?

    People with tattoos?

    People with children?

Seeming as all your neighbours seem to be a certain type of people and you are the one on their own, is it possible that you are the thorn in their side?

I suggest it is you that are the bad neighbour and should move out to allow the rest of them peace.

Now you've lost the battle you move the goalposts.

So you live in a block of 6, 3 private and one council and 2 private ones rented to the council.

Two young part loving couples who smoke & drink and have chavy mates. That haven't done anything illegal.

One couple ex junkies who have a child and have done nothing illegal.

So what is your complaint again, i'm confused:confused:

Not illegal unless they're doing it without consent in your flat.

I think the complaint is that he had expected a middle class idyll in an ex council block.

Go sit in a pub OP they are smoke free and no one can afford to drink anymore, should be nice and peaceful.

How dare they be anything other than perfect. If they are now off drugs and on a Methadone programme then good for them.

    You're looking for advice, yes?

My advice would be to accept the fact that people are different to you, and some of those people may cross your path during your lifetime.

If those people cause you no problems apart from offending you merely my existing, then I advise perhaps looking for counselling, with the aim of controlling your xenophobic thought processes. Perhaps your doctor could refer you.

If that doesn't work, or you can't find a counsellor who specialises in xenophobia, you could move, but you say you shouldn't have to. That's understandable, but if the trauma of living near such undesirables is too much, I fear there is little else you can do.

I suppose you could report them for existing, but I'm not sure of the correct council department.

Hmmm... You mean the expensive looking types who work in the city and plough through Class A's faster than I can eat a Galaxy bar?

No? Oh, would they be ok though because they would have the right 'look' or would it not even cross your mind someone like that could be blowing the wrong type of smoke?

At least this family are trying to get their lives in order and I hope the program helps... If you knew anything about how methadone works you'd know it isn't a straight swap...

They are supposedly reformed heroin addicts, but are now methadone addicts. Just because it's legal doesn't make it right in my book. I am a hard-working respectable person and don't want to live amongst such people. And why the hell should I? I pay my way in life, these people don't and never will. They are SCUM.

Grow up. If you wanted total control of your environment you should have bought a private house or flat in an upmarket area instead of acting like a cheapskate and buying an ex council flat.

I dunno, a lot of great literature has come from drug abuse and music.

I'm just thinking here that if you were a bit nice to them they might be nice back. You know karma and all that? Good luck to you Piedude, you may need it with that residual anger.

    Fixed your post :p

On a serious note - you are judgemental, snobby and are coming across as a bit of a nazi. These people have done you no harm. If they start to display anti-social behaviour, report them. Till then, live and let live.
