My vote would have to go to...

Marlon Brando

I just don't get all the fuss about an overpaid guy who was too lazy to learn his lines and had to read them off boards around the set. Jeez I could that !

Robert Downey Jr ... his rapid gibbering gets on my nerves. Haven't liked him in anything I've seen him in; even the first Ironman.

    Angelina Jolie
    Cate Blanchett
    Brad Pitt
    Matt Damon
    Penelope Cruz

I think critics are blinded by their looks (aside from puppet Matt, his appeal remains a mystery) when reviewing their acting ability.

    Mickey Rourke

    River Phoenix

    Tobey Maguire

Jacki Chan - He's a martial arts expert who can act - yeah right!

    Simon Pegg.

    Tom Cruise & Will Smith.

Will Smith was excellent in 'Ali'. Good actor who goes for too many ordinary roles.

Di Caprio has acted well in a number of fine films (and Titanic). Would agree about Cruise and even more so about Pitt.
    Will Smith
    Kiera Knightley
    Julia Roberts
    Denzel Washington
    George Clooney

    Denzil Washington = fine actor.

Micker Rourke was very good in "The Wrestler" and River Phoenix outstanding in "Stand By Me" - but died before his full talent could be realised.

I'd add Steve Martin, who I don't find at all funny. Strip his attempts at being funny away and there's some very poor acting.

I also don't get the fuss about Russell Crowe........

Natalie Portman - She always seemed to be very well respected but I've never been sure why. I saw Black Swan and liked it but even then I'm not convinced that Portman's performance was anything exceptional.

Angelina Jolie - There's actually some potential here as noted in Changeling and Girl, Interrupted but she seems to always be in crappy roles.

Successful child actress who never went off the rails, maybe? I don't rate her in anything other than Black Swan either.

I actually thought he was brilliant when he was alive, but I agree that a lot of people joined the bandwagon after he died, but I liked him since 10 things I hate about you!

    Robert Pattinson is overrater
As is Kirsten Stewart, did not deserve her BAFTA last year

She certainly IS NOT a crap actress. I doubt you have seen Gia, The Changeling, A Mighty Heart or Girl Interrupted then... if you have, you are talking rubbish.

There are so many overpaid thespians who possess limited acting skills its hard to list them all.

Angelina Jolie is simply awful as are Tom Cruise, Will Smith and Jennifer Aniston...the list goes on.

Predictably, this isn't a thread about overrated actors. This is a thread about actors people don't like for a variety of reasons. Most of the actors here have been acclaimed by their peers. Names like Al Pacino, Leo de Caprio, Jolie and Depp should be nowhere near an overrated list. Tom Cruise even. Do people forget he won an Oscar nomination as Ron Kovick in the critically acclaimed Oliver stone picture or that he was critically acclaimed in the Scorcese film alongside Paul Newman. I really would like to know people's criteria for basing an actor (not just Tom Cruise but others mentioned) who has won various plaudits as being overrated or just plain crap.

It is also interesting that a medicore director will also make an acclaimed actor look bad. Similarly, a mediocre actor can look great when directed by a true director of actors.

She is a bit of a strange one. She is not entirely mainstream but but she was superb in Closer and of course Leon.
