I'm talking around mid life.
Do you ever contemplate this? I'm mid forties and my parents are at the twilight stage of life. I'm not sure I want to get to that point.

I agree, to an extent. Once quality of life gets to a certain low, i'd want to be shot out of a cannon.

Profoundly sad when you see what time can do to people, in your own family.

The younger you die, the more people at your funeral...

Are there any advantages to death in general other than to escape debilitation?

    Yes I think so.
Remaining a certain way in the thoughts of others. Not having to struggle through with depression or loneliness.

I'd certainly argue that depression can be debilitating. Wouldn't necessarily prescribe death as a cure though.

OK so I now need glasses , my back and knees are shot , I've reduced mobility in my left arm and shoulder , high blood pressure and my hearings not as it was but I still enjoy myself and its not long now till I can start being excused by others for my behaviour "because its his age" whats not to live for ?

My dad's in great health at 72, not that that's a grand old age or anything. He still works full time because he loves it, regularly goes jogging and is as sharp as a tack. If I could be like him at his age then I'd be happy enough.

Presumably you can only answer this if you have died young?

I'm looking forward to dying, this life holds very little attraction tbh. But it is up to God to decide when I go.

    Depressing thread.

I always said I didn't want to get old, especially to people who told me to stop smoking "else.....". Now I am getting old, and could really feel the smoking, I've given up, as I'm nowhere near ready yet.

The nearer it gets, the less ready I shall be, I predict.

Please don't wish to die young, though I believe everyone should be able to go whenever they want. Certainly nothing to do with "god", otherwise that lightening bolt would have struck me years ago.

You don't get to the stage where you can't go to the toilet by yourself.
