Be interesting to see how Capital does in one of the least urbanised and most white parts of the UK. and I wonder how they will get around the Welsh language requirement.

From what I read in my link, capital will replace real in north wales so there's no welsh language requirement. From that I assume heart (coast and champion) will remain the same.

Why ? It's a hit music station. Don't they listen to hit music in that part of Wales.

its the other way around.....heart is going onto reals frequency so its covers wales and capital coming to the heart frequencies. ... www.radiotoday.co.uk has the correct details....so capital will need welsh programming on 103 and one hour a day on 96.3 but heart been doing it 4 years without an issue so capital would be able to.

What on earth has being a 'white part of the UK' got to do with Capitals ability to succeed?:o

Yes that's correct. Heart moves to the Real frequencies which have much greater coverage and no Welsh language requirements.

The old Marcher stations will become Capital. Potentially the 97.1 Wirral frequency could be used for a "Capital Merseyside" to go up against City and Juice. They'd need to break away from the North Wales stations though to be taken seriously, and get rid of the traffic updates for Colwyn Bay and Rhyl.

Do the core of capitals audience 15-24 really care about travel ect ? At a guess i would say it would be far down on their list in terms of what they want from a radio station. Do they also really care about the station being local ? Eg just for mersyside ? At a guess most people in that demographic just want a station that bangs out the hits they like.

Fair point. Against the locally focused City and Juice which both scream Liverpool, all the mentions of North Wales might seem odd. But for the Capital audience the music is the most important thing.

Don't forget Capital is required to play 90 percent rap/hip hop/soul/urban music. That's because the network holds a significant number of former specialist music station licences..... Especially the 102.2 licence in Birmingham which was originally aimed at the Black community. It's hard to imagine a great contrast between inner city Brum and rural North Wales!

My friend, 22, was saying how much she loves "Capital Manchester" in her car, but can only get it properly when high up. I bought her a DAB for Christmas, and she's pleased to hear that it is coming to crystal clear 97.1. The last thing she'll care about is out of area travel, it hasn't bothered her up to now.

Does 97.1 put a reasonable signal into Liverpool? It must be one of the largest cities in the UK not currently covered by either Capital or Kiss.

It's good but could be better. The Storeton transmitter has always provided questionable coverage, with pockets of poor reception in certain areas.

http://www.ofcom.org.uk/static/radiolicensing/mcamaps/al000087.pdf the map on the final page shows the intended coverage area which includes much of Liverpool.

That is not true Capital is a hit music station and 90 percent of the musuc is not urban.

I doubt Capital will do aswell as Heart on those frequencies because they have always been more hot ac. Global will manage the transition to the new Heart frequency very well.

I'm sure they-ll add in some welsj stuff on 103 to keep the militant welshies happy.

That's not how I understood the format. I thought many of the orginal Galaxy formats were basically all Urban music, and Global went to OFCOM for permission to play 10% non Urban hit music.

Happy to stand corrected if any has a link to the agreed format...

These music format restrictions are likely to be abolished later this year. Capital will probably become "a chart and contemporary music station for people under 35", and that will allow them to play any music genre which appeals to under-35s.

Only Birmingham has to play Urban I believe and Scotland had or has some music clause too. If you listen to Capital it's clear that it's not an urban station.

If that happens, then I think OFCOM should insist that the Birmingham station should be changed to Capital Extra (with Capital continuing on DAB)

Well I'm 24 and the important thing for me is the travel. Last thing I want to be doing is being stuck in traffic.
