Video problems in Firefox, please help.

Can someone please help me.

I've been using Firefox browser and it was great but now I can't play Youtube videos or any video for that matter. I tried removing it completely and reinstalling it, still won't work.

Same thing happens when you want to enlarge pictures, etc.

Anyone else having this issue? I don't want to quite Firefox because it is so much better than IE.

Any help you can give will be VERY much appreciated.

Flash problem?

http://support.google.com/youtube/bi...n&answer=56115

Some kind of popup blocking software you've installed?

You'll probably need to provide details of any error messages you see, and of your system, to get more detailed help though. My Firefox is fine.

Have you recently updated Adobe Flash 11 plugin? The last two updates have been buggy and aren't working properly. There have been many comments posted at filehippo about this with regards to youtube.

I have had to uninstall both updates and revert back to a previous version of the plugin in order to be able to watch youtube (and other flash) videos

The last version that is working for me is version 228

http://www.filehippo.com/download_fl...firefox/11983/

You may have your settings to allow updates, if so, you will need to prevent updates from automatically downloading otherwise it will automatically update once you reinstall an older version.

There seems to be a conflict with Real Player. Try uninstalling that and it may work, it did for me!

I think that might be what had happened to be fair. I'll have to try it when I get a chance.

Why is this happening with Firefox? Nothing wrong with IE. But I like Firefox a lot better.

Sounds like the same as mine.

Mine keeps going funny on youtube and crashes for no reason I have to reboot every time.

I always advise folk to refuse updates for Flash. I dunno about FF but Google Chrome updates automatically!

Isn't it the plugin-container.exe that's causing the problems?

Hopefully the next update to flash will sort out all the issues that a heck of a lot of people seem to be having, including myself. Firefox was crashing while watching flash and just seemed to be stalling on a hourly basis or more. However i've now switched over to chrome and while i don't really like the layout i find it's much faster than firefox and i've yet to have any issues with it crashing or refusing to play flash content correctly. Plus you can still use add-ons like ad-block and all the other popular ones that you could use on firefox.

I've sorted it now, all I had to do was remove the current version of Flash and install an older version. I got it from http://www.oldapps.com/

Took me a while to find, it's not on the official Adobe site.

Thanks for all your help.

You may find http://www.oldversion.com/ interesting too.

Sounds interesting, I guess I'll have to look into that. I tried using Chrome but don't like the layout either. If only they could produce a better layout version.

I, last night, removed the latest version of flash and installed 10.3:

http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/...-versions.html (top link)

The direct download: http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get...20_archive.zip

This is the one you want from the folder: flashplayer10_3r183_20_win.exe

Furthermore the Firefox plugin container is a CPU hog, if you don't have much to play with turn it off:

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Plugin-con...ash_protection

It will prevent any stuttering you might experience when the CPU is maxed out.

Adobe have just released "an important fix that addresses stability issues for Firefox users" regarding the "recently released Flash Player 11.3 in Firefox."

I am about to risk it and install it... watch this space...

EDIT

2 minutes later... I've just installed the Adobe fix for Firefox and all is well. Youtube at least works well.

I received an automatic notification from Adobe, asking if I wanted to install it. It's the same version 11.3.300.262 (9.36 MB) as posted above (but I unticked the security thing box as I've no idea what that is or does).

I had rejected their previous offers of an update, I always wait a few weeks before accepting them, precisely to cover situations like this one. To do it like that, set it to "Notify Me of updates" when you update, instead of "update automatically".

To change settings on older versions,

http://www.macromedia.com/support/do...s_manager.html

Scroll down to the link for Global Notifications Settings Panel.

For the latest versions, e.g. the new update, it's on your PC: Control Panel > Flash Player

All I did was just reinstall V7.5 of java and removed the 6.33 that caused the problems then just reinstalled the latest firefox.

I forgot to say thank you for your advice! Now I've got Firefox working properly.

I feel like a complete man now
