Not being on Facebook/social media is suspicious say some employers & psychologists!!

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...uspicious.html

Some quotes from that article....

Quote:
Facebook has become such a pervasive force in modern society that increasing numbers of employers, and even some psychologists, believe people who aren't on social networking sites are 'suspicious.'
Quote:
On a more tangible level, Forbes.com reports that human resources departments across the country are becoming more wary of young job candidates who don't use the site

The common concern among bosses is that a lack of Facebook could mean the applicant's account could be so full of red flags that it had to be deleted.
Quote:
.....And this is what the argument boils down to: It's the suspicion that not being on Facebook, which has become so normal among young adults, is a sign that you're abnormal and dysfunctional, or even dangerous, ways
What complete and utter rubbish!

I don't use Facebook or Twitter myself as I have no interest in it. But according to some psychoogists this is a sign that I'm abnormal, dysfunctional and even dangerous!!! Also no wonder I don't usually get a response back from the many jobs I've applied for over the last few years, as some employers will apparantly think it's suspicious that I'm not on Facebook!!!

What is the world coming to??!!:confused :

You seem to be very aggressive re. your non usage of Facebook or Twitter.

Do you have anger issues? Do you feel angry with society? Just wondering... *ahem*

I reckon not being able to use the search function on websites should worry employers more.

Damn. There goes my theory that using facebook and twitter mean you have a short attention span. You couldn't even be bothered to read HALFWAY down the page to see the other thread already started.

I don't have a Facebook or Twitter account, this is due to me having a life that doesn't revolve around pissing about updating pointless shit on profiles that mean less than nothing to me, let alone anybody else. If I want to ask a mate something I'll phone them, not paste it on their wall and keep checking back for a reply that consists mainly of emotes. And i consider myself perfectly normal and well adjusted.

This is very worrying. It is hard enough for people to find jobs without employers making assumptions based on nothing.
