SAS and special forces from other countries, with helicopter support.
Existing air strikes with high speed jets way up high can only do so much.

They're not a gang, They're a horrifying organisation and they are incredibly competent in many aspects.

They are well armed and funded. They have substantial infrastructure in place to run their 'country' and also to run a functional economy. They have a very successful recruitment record from Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram accounts. Their tactics have (so far) been incredibly successful in overwhelming their opponents (tactics usually involved opening multiple fronts against an enemy to spread them thin, and then push around the city/stronghold and besiege/shell/bomb the forces caught in the city/stronghold). They also are incredibly confident, as they should be, in one month they established a functional Islamic State and continue to expand it.

Many of their soldiers are foreign fighters from Chechnya (aka the group who has been taking on the Russian Spetznaz for two decades), Dagestan (similar to Chechnya), Al Qaeda Yemen defectors, and many more (probably a good number of defectors from various African extremist groups, like Al Shabaab, Al Qaeda's Africa division based in Somalia). Not to mention that they are really good at recruiting and brainwashing the younger generation into joining their ranks. My point here is that they aren't just a bunch of random people who picked up an AK47 and decided to capture half of Iraq and Syria.

We should never have made the mistake of underestimating them.

Some people are of the opinion that the countries in the region that support this fight should use their ground forces and the US, UK and others will do it from the air.

I think all the countries that have contributed to destroying them will each do their fair share of stopping their antics. I think countries are attacking them because they don't want to risk being invaded by them if/when their numbers increase. The fact that IS have been murdering people from outside countries, this will also have something to do with them now being attacked as well.

I think an international army will stop them, and that's how it should be. There are feet on the ground working on intelligence, the airstrikes are not only taking out their people but their tools to gain finance (oil refineries) and also their weapons and vehicles.

The Middle East won't end ISIS alone, nor will Western countries. A collaborative effort which we have now is what I believe will end them.

Sadly, I think once the airstrikes have destroyed all of IS's sources of money, people on the ground may be needed to battle with these pigs.

If that is the case, and I'm sure it is, then surely we have to do it?

I think being on the ground in a combat role, rather than intelligence that we are now, should be the last option though.

No amount of artillery will stop religious zealots like IS. Sadly, they will always exist. How active they are may fluctuate, but you can't change mental attitudes as warped as theirs with guns and bombs.
