When listening to the radio show, how long do you think the opening link should be?

- Less than 1 minute (Just a DJ saying what's coming up - Like Real Radio)
- 1-5 Minutes (Decent amount of banter between two hosts or one DJ discussing his life/other topics)
- 10-15 Minutes (Longer conversation)
- 30 Minutes (Like Moyles)

First link really should be a hello and talk up what is coming up. You want the listener to keep listening for as long as possible. So under a minute, with the second link 2-5 minutes. Build up the suspense. No point going all out in the first link, it will bore the listener and they will switch off

It completely depends on what is appropriate for the programme.

An opening.link is no different from any other link and it should be as long as it needs to be in order to get to the point.

It might be an opening link for the presenter but listeners may have been there for some time already so it's just a continuation of what they are listening to. People generally don't turn on at the start of a show and turn off at the end (apart from specialist shows) they dip in and out of the stations as they go about their lives.

Ideally an opening link should be everything an opening link shouldn't be.

Message to all in radio - please throw away the textbooks.

Except when it comes to precision in speech. :)

I think it depends on the presenter

Chris Moyles and Greg James I like a long opening link to hear their news , what they have been up to

On Magic, I do not care about the presenter and just want the music so short snappy links
