I watched the "Try and Catch Me" episode.

It's obvious how the nephew smirks at the picture of the niece that he murdered her on the boat. Then for Ruth Gordan to kill him off in the safe <333 Amazing.

She is high on the killer sympathy list. Especially loved how everyone knew she killed the nephew all along but where covering for her. They all knew he killed the niece too :D

One of my weekend treats is to watch Columbo on a Saturday afternoon. :D

Well...I say watch. I tend to doze off in the middle. Happened yesterday during 'Playback' that was aired on 5USA. Glad I woke up in time to watch the shabby LAPD Lieutenant nail the inventer who murdered his mother-in-law!

This has always been one of my favourite episodes, I remember watching it with my grandad in the early/mid 80s

    Saturday

    5USA

6:30pm Murder By The Book (1971)

The first proper episode after the two pilots and Jack Cassidy's first appearance. Weirdly an actress who played one of the murder victims in that episode was murdered in real life 4 years later

    Sunday

    5USA

    12:55pm Murder By The Book
    2:30pm Try And Catch Me
4:00pm The Conspirators (1978) The last episode of the original version

    That was a good one!

I didn't realise that Jack Cassidy, who played the murderer, was in fact teen idol David Cassidy's father!

I noticed there were quite a few episodes that used film or cinema as a plot device or alibi for a suspect.

There was the one on now where the suspect used subliminal cuts in the film.
There was one on the other night where the person used the fact they were watching a film as an alibi.
There was also one where the change over blob was used to help capture the suspect.
And the one with the film director who had a film from childhood catch the out.
Also the CCTV one with George Hamilton.
The Speed camera one as well.

    Any more?

Yes I think there were a couple of episodes that used photos as evidence or alibi.

Never tire of watching Columbo and nice to see ITV re-running some from the seventies on Sundays. Etude in Black was one of my favourites with John Cassavetes and directed by Nicholas Colasanto who played Coach in Cheers.

All they need to add is the 'Sunday Mystery Movie' titles at the very beginning :-)

There are now 3 channels showing Columbo at the weekends

In addition to 5USA and ITV3 Universal have recently started showing episodes on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. I also saw a trailer this morning for something called Columbo Christmas which said that from Monday they will also be showing an episode every weekday afternoon

Universal seem to have stopped now for Christams and are back to showing twenty NCIS episodes in a row, wtf that is, who knows ?
ITV3 are showing the episodes at random from various series too, this weekend a 1989 one with Anthony Andrews which was like many of the later ones, not great.

The second one this weekend was form the classic period, a 1975 show with Laurence Harvey, have not watched yet (well watched with my Dad thirty years back :'( ).
