What does she have to gain from it?

Kat giving Michael a bad character reference?

To be honest, I'm starting to wonder how Kat's word will have any considerable effect on Janine's sentence there must be something more to Janine's last wager

They both stand to gain: Kat can tell the court exactly what Michael was like (and being family through marriage and he being the father of her son will have a huge credibility factor in court) and this could help Janine walk free. Janine should be jumping at the offer, not turning it down.

I think not! What barbarian state do we all of a sudden live in, that means murderers can just walk free...

Maybe not walk free as such, I'm betting Janine will probably get a reduced manslaughter charge if Kat manages to convince the jury that Janine most likely acted out of self defense as Michael was violent and manipulative. Either way, it's obviously going to be set up so Janine is able to return in the near future whenever Charlie Brooks decides to, so it's not reflective of what would happen during a murder charge in reality.

The police already now that Michael and Alice went round to her house and planned to murder Janine, Alice confirmed it. What with a family member and the mother of Michaels child who lived with him at the time telling the court he was dangerous all the court has against her is a phone recording which can't be legitimised. If this was real life she would be acquitted there is no evidence beyond reasonable doubt that she even killed him let alone that it wasn't out of self defence.

The whole story doesn't add up, it'd be swings and roundabouts.

1st - There were never any charges laid on Stacey, the police never got chance to arrest her, so there are no charges to drop.
2nd - A warrant for Stacey's arrest was made, it would have been suspicion of wounding with intent.
3rd - If Janine told the police she lied she could be charged with perverting the course of justice and wasting police time. It would give the police evidence that she is a devious liar.

Wouldn't she just have to tell the police that she's not interested in pursuing any charges against her?

Yeah, she would, but at what cost?
