Definitely want to see Film4 HD, and also more effort from broadcasters putting subtitles on their HD channels.

Wish there was +1 channels as per SD.

Dave HD. The only bad thing about this, is that the majority of their content probably has never been filmed in HD, therefore we'd have to make do with an upscale :(

Film4 HD is definitely welcome in my books! As is Sky 2 HD

I would expect Film4 HD to come to Sky, and possibly the launch of More4 HD by the end of the year.

STV HD, Sky 2 and 3 HD, and probably another UKTV HD channel (I'd guess at Watch).

    Likely channels to come:

CBS Action HD, CBS Drama HD, CNN HD, Travel Channel HD, Food Network HD.

    Probably all free too.

I doubt very much they'd be free.

    Most will be.

CBS and Food Network are committed to Freesat.

Remember the first free SD channels on Sky Digital were from smaller networks like TCM, Golf Channel, Motors TV. I highly expect these to come free first followed by ITV2 HD going free in a year or two.

ITV2 HD has seemingly had very low viewing figures in HD so how would these channels do? I imagine any new HD channel on Freesat will do well if they get in ahead of ITV/C4. Plus I'm sure CBS decided to stay free when they took over Zone's channels.

I suppose so! Fingers crossed anyway.

Just remember the more channels that purport to be
HD the less bit rate for the existing supposedly HD channels = less quality. I would say we will be paying £10.00pm for channels no better than SD and that will have been a masterstroke by sky. Its called more for less.

Can i ask does that mean Sky 2 is changing it's name to Atlantic as it has already been mentioned on another thread as been on channel 107 which Sky 2 currently occupies

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think Sky 2 is being replaced. I think it's just moving channels numbers.

    Sky2 is definitely not closing.

Sky3 is taking Channel One's programmes.

Bravo channels will accommodate Sky Atlantic and the closure of Sky Real Lives in the summer paved the way for Sky Living.

Sky have closed all these so far: Sky Real Lives, Sky Real Lives 2, Sky Real Lives+1, Sky Real Lives HD, Sky Travel shop and by 2011: Bravo, Bravo2, Bravo+1, Channel One, Channel One+1, Challenge Jackpot.

Sky2 is likely to accommodate some of Bravo's pay programing. Atlantic is HBO only shows. Sky2 is moving due to the reshuffle probable not far as some of Living's channels occupy the 110's.

Sky Atlantic is a new channel. Sky 2, as far as we know is staying, but will likely add content from Channel 1 and/or Bravo as these are being closed by Sky.

Sky Atlantic is seemingly taking the Sky 2 EPG slot as it will carry much new content so is regarded as higher priority and thus needs to be high up the channel list.

Sky 2 may well take one of the ex Virgin channel numbers that Sky have bought and are axing.

With the amount of closures they may launch Sky1+1 which was trialed on Sky2. That would allow Sky2 HD, Sky2+1 and maybe Sky3 HD?

Many are assuming Sky2 is closing as it's moving from it's current slot but they forget Sky3 exists so it's unlikely they would shut a second channel leaving a gap.

    So lets get this straight:
    Sky1 is staying at 106
Sky Living is going to 107
Sky Atlantic is going to 108
Bravo's content will go to Sky1, Sky2 & Sky Atlantic
Channel One's content will go to Sky2, Sky3 & Challenge.

ITV2 HD has seemingly had very low viewing figures in HD so how would these channels do?

When the HD EPG Swap happens in February, HD ratings will rise significantly.

Roughly 12% of the channels' viewers will be watching the HD versions by default.

    Atlantic is HBO only shows.

HBO shows will make the majority of the schedule but there will be shows from elsewhere eg Mad Men

I very much doubt that ITV would throw away a guaranteed income by making ITV2HD free at any time. I don't know exactly how much ITV are getting from subscription fees but I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't around the £1m a month mark, maybe more.

Once a second DVB-T2 mux on DTT launches Film4 HD and ITV2 HD will be most likely so it will be free somewhere no doubt.

At the moment advertising won't be viable free but in the future if viewers are watching by default they would get larger audiences free.

We heard it all before "E4 will never go free", "Film Four would never drop premium channel revenue". I agree it makes sense for ITV2 HD to be pay now however further down the line I don't see them staying pay.

I don't see the fuss about "E4 HD" I can watch it all on C4 HD at some point anyway in HD for free. Same with ITV2 HD and ITV1 HD. If people are happy to pay for channels that should be free fair enough. :D

I don't suppose anyone is actually paying the HD sub, just to get these channels.

You don't even need to get the Variety pack to receive them. Like Sky News HD, E4 HD, ITV2/3/4 HD, are 'bonus' channels and available to all HD pack subscribers.

Film4 HD, Zone Horror HD and CBS Action HD will do me - even though I have the basic Sky channels, I find more I want to watch on these than the pay channels.

It won't be Zone Horror but 'horror channel HD'. It's been taken over by CBS.
