Just started reading the first book. I'm up to date so far with the tv series but was wondering how long it took everyone to get through all of the books.
I want to be up to/finished the 4th book by the time the 4th series comes out next year.
Really enjoying the books so far but have to admit there is a lot of characters to remember
I've now read all 5 books but it took me about a year and a half, as I read other books inbetween. I also heald off reading a Dance with Dragons for about 6 or 7 months because I knew that it would be a long time before the next one comes out.
I love the books! had them for a while and when season 3 started I was really determined to catch up and get ahead. 6 weeks it took me to get ahead of the tv series - book 3 part 2 is my favourite! so far, started feast for crows, but taking it a bit slower now I got what i wanted
FINALLY finished Feast for Crows, took me just over 3 weeks which is the longest its took me so far to finish one of these books.
It was just really slow paced. Nothing really happened. You're stuck following characters that (as someone wrote up-thread) you're completely neutral to, meaning you don't really have any drive to keep on reading and reading like the previous books.
That's not to say I didn't enjoy it though. I did, absolutely. I just can't wait to start A Dance with Dragons tonight and find out what's been happening with Dany, Jon, Tyrion ect
They're guna struggle to make a series out of this one I think
i am one of the small percentage of the fanbase that very much enjoyed AFFC. It shows throughout the book the devastation wrought upon the lands touched by the raging war for the crown and the effects of those not from the gilded, landed elite.
Plus i always enjoy chapters relating to Brienne.
I understand why some people take against it as their least liked of the series, but i still think it adds a great deal to the unfolding events around the world.

I really enjoyed the Brienne chapters as well. She's a great character. I also liked Arianne's story set in Dorne.

My favourite, i think it contains some of the very best writing in the series.
I started the book around the same time as some friends did. I read a few books first before watching the first episode (which sadly, I did not warm to). But when I watched the show, I had a good idea of who the characters were from the description in the books - there are so many characters popping up right away that the back story from the books helps. I think I might try the show - Dany I can't stand in the books and I wonder if I would feel differently with the show.
My friend who did it the other way around took a while to remember, or learn, who was who in the show, he was more, "oh hey white bearded guy from 2 episodes ago". Once he got started on the books he found it easier to follow too.
I love these books and can't wait for the WoW release date!
