The first single I bought with my own money was Bananarama - Love In The First Degree in 1987.
I had loads of singles bought for me by my parents before that, I think the first one might have been Nicole - A Little Peace which won Eurovision in 1982.
There are various titles spring to mind, but probably bought with my parents money, but in terms of my own money, I think the first record I bought was Herman's Hermits 'Silouettes'
The first single I bought with my own money earned from my Saturday Job in Woolies (13/6d a day, thats about 63p) was 'Rock Island Line ' by Lonnie Donegan, I think it was around 1956/7, that makes me an old one!

But what a record! The beginnings of rock 'n' roll in the UK.

In retrospect I'm rather pleased, considering my tender years, that it was a credible song and not something by Showaddywaddy or someone...........
