Robert Peston to ITV News and Peston On Sunday confirmed.

I can't see this move going well. Peston doesn't scream ITV to me. He tends to go on a bit on the news too, and they'll be less time for that with adverts to fit in.

I say good luck to him.

Won't make any difference to the news ratings. Peston On Sunday will be interesting but Andrew Marr has been there awhile.

I wonder who these other ''expert journalists'' mentioned in the press release are ? ITV News seems remarkably light on specialists by comparison with the BBC.

But isn't that the same as people expecting ITV to move X Factor later and later, so Strictly can have the lionshare of primetime?

People don't want Strictly starting earlier, so it doesn't dent BBC One's ratings, but they have no problem with X Factor being on later, who relies on ad income, just so Strictly can air all their show in primetime.

If ITV want more viewers, all they need to do is to deliver a better product. That way, more people will watch it. And ITV will get more ad income.

I don't think anyone expects Strictly to have the 'lionshare of primetime' or ITV to move TXF 'later and later'. There's no evidence for this. The overlap between shows is a lot less than it has been previously. I fail to see the problem.

    That's a myth.

I always think EastEnders is better when it is hard hitting kitchen sink drama. Sadly we are not getting much of this. I don't really want 'love and warmth 'back. If you want all that Mullarkey pop over to Weatherfield. ;-)

Oh I do watch corrie when I can, some laugh out moments, which cant be said for eastenders!!

You remind me of another poster whos not been around hmm :)

Why do ITV have such scheduling idiots? It was so obvious that Eternal Glory would flop, it is yet another LE show that has flopped in this slot after a long line of them. WAKE UP! Learn from the past mistakes, or alternatively just keep scheduling badly.

Lewis as suspected returned with lower figures, thanks to the very little effort ITV have put in all year, but its up almost 2m on last week. Hopefully it should rise from here, but scheduing it as two parts has dented the overnight, and they would have so much stronger Teusday if it started from 8pm with Emmerdale's lead in. There is no point keep doing these soap clashes if you schedule a flop at 8pm.

Speaking of soap clashes, ITV shot themselves in the foot. What with EastEnders viewers catching up at 10pm, ITV2's new comedy block died as a result, so that's cured that. ITV2s schedules have put The Job Lot a 10.30pm slot to de when its a stronger brand than new show Glitchy.

What do these schedulers get paid for, because this year ITV's scheduling has been truly attrocious. These are people in TV and yet they cannot see how good scheduling results in a strong ratings. It beggars belief.

ITV2 is struggling as it is, all the big shows down YOY. New channels added to spread the content out even thinner.....as if ITV has enough programmes to support 6 channels. So much better to have 4 channels and fill them with quality programming.

Does Bergg schedule all ITV's channels?

More to the point, why does ITV want Peston at all? What benefit will it give them? Kudos with the politicians they are falling over themselves to get onside with their hypocritical anti-BBC rants?

Oh well. Maybe Peter Fincham will get Christine Bleakly, Susannah Reid and Adrian Chiles to welcome him with open arms …

I guess it's a matter of principle, why should the BBC bow down to ITV's heavy handed tactics and give up the slots which EE has been in for 30 years?

Don't get me started on that pig headed nonsense again.

I was trying to be helpful. It's up to that poster to decide whether I was being patronising since I was replying to them not you, but that wasn't my intention.

It's not nonsense. I would also criticise the BBC if they were actively gunning for one of ITV's programmes in an attempt to commandeer its slot.

Its definitely a big loss to BBC news,as can be seen by Tony Hall getting involved in the negotiations.

You obviously knew what the poster meant and so did they and everyone else. How is a grammar lesson helpful?

And it is nonsense (this idea of principle when in fact your show would fare better if it was moved). The pig headed attitude of "We won't move EE out of its slot because it's ours and we've had it for years" is just rubbish. You move it to protect it. The BBC obviously aren't that concerned about it if they don't move it away as often as they could.

Why do you think that scheduling is the reason why ITV shows are ailing? People just seem to make up escuses to try and paint over the fact that these shows and the channel is in decline.

I mean, that trailer for Lewis would turn anyone off tuning in. We also have an ex Corrie star who seemingly now plays a lead role, and she plays the same character style in whatever she does.

I suppose you will be blaming the scheduling when your beloved Beowulf and Jekyll flops?

It's harder to find a compromise over the weekend situation and I'm not convinced that the scheduling is doing that much harm to the X Factor. XF is a show in decline anyway. It's just excuses. Even if it aired earlier on Saturday nights and there was no overlap its numbers would likely still be mediocre compared to what they were and still behind a disadvantaged SCD which if some people had their way would be starting at 5pm.

ITV are moaning about Strictly's timeslot and runtime while aggressively targeting EE and now they've gone and put XF in a slot it's never aired in before that's been occupied by SCD for years on Sunday.

No but scheduling does affect the ratings. Eternal Glory is not anything must-see, but its average entetainemt. However it would do better on Saturday at 7pm, than Tuesday at 8pm.

Those viewrs will only know if a proramme is poor after watching it.

But there's people on here slamming ITV for not trying anything new for Tuesday Nights. So they do, and they're damned.

This show had flop written all over it anyway. It's the same washed up sports stars trying to show off to the nation and trying to prove they're still relevant.:D

I'm surprised it wasn't Gabby Logan presenting it anyway or Vernon Kaye, but I suppose Richard Bacon is the next best rating's kiss of death.

For those wondering, here are the 28 day figures for Bake Off from BARB + iPlayer.

    05/08 - 11.73m + 2.06m = 13.79m
    12/08 - 11.84m + 1.98m = 13.82m
    19/08 - 12.37m + 1.76m = 14.13m
    26/08 - 12.67m + 1.54m = 14.21m

Can it really reach a 14 million average?

I'm going for around 13 million, but this show continues to surprise and the press hasn't turned on it yet.

    Not long to wait now...
