I posted about some good movies out this year towards the end of last year:

http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1919755

But seems 2015 will be even bigger:

Taken 3
Amityville
Fifty Shades of Grey
Poltergeist
Ted 2
Insidious: Chapter 3
Fast & Furious 7
Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2
Pitch Perfect 2
Jurassic World
The Fantastic Four
Magic Mike 2
Terminator: Genesis
Assassin's Creed
Fifth Bourne movie
Frankenstein
The Conjuring 2
Bond 24
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2
Star Wars Episode VII
Mission: Impossible 5
Mad Max: Fury Road

If that's not enough 2016 Stat Trek 3, Avatar 2, Independence Day 2.

I'm sure if we had someone from the 1800's they would contest this list. I guess 2015 represents the biggest year for most anticipated squeals, reimaginations, reboots and original films in recent times.

In terms of what cinemas will make money wise it could be a record breaking box office year.

Who cares? That says nothing about the quality of the films.

Meh to much of that list.

Taken 3 - The first one was great, but the second was a poor cash-in. There might be hope that the third is put back on track, but not enough to make it a must-see movie.

Fifty Shades of Grey - Seriously, this is the worst idea for a book-to-movie idea ever. Its going to be a total failure and even if it isn't, there's nothing in the original story to make this a great movie. At best it will be shit that managed to make a box office dent.

Poltergeist - How many remakes actually end up good?

Insidious: Chapter 3 - Were the first two really that big a thing? Don't see this making much waves, even if it happens to be good.

Fast & Furious 7 - We all know what to expect. Crap movie that will go higher than its story should allow, simply because of Paul Walker dying.

Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 - How is this even in a list of films that will make a year great?

Jurassic World - Possibly, but the Jurassic Park franchise is like The Matrix; good original film and a sustainable franchise killed by awful sequels. Could go either way, but there's no guarantee of greatness.

The Fantastic Four - After the previous two? It could happen, but there's really nothing to make you assume it will be great.

Terminator: Genesis - A possibility, but there's a lot of bad blood that needs addressing among fans. Really no guarantee of anything great.

Assassin's Creed - I actually would love for this to be great. There is tons of potential, but let's be honest, films of games have a poor track record. I hope to be proven wrong, but I wouldn't use this as an expectation of a good film.

Fifth Bourne movie - Franchise kinda died with the last one. Don't expect much.

    Bond 24
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2
    Star Wars Episode VII
    Mission: Impossible 5
    Mad Max: Fury Road

Ok, I'll kinda give over to all of these. Bond is a guaranteed hit and has a good chance of actually being good. Hunger Games is pretty much on fire right now. Star Wars, enough said; could be crap, but will still be an event bigger than the return of Jesus. MI:5 could go either way in terms of quality, but is likely to be a big success. Mad Max is one of those stories that could actually benefit from a reboot. It could fail miserably, but it might just work out. Probably the one I'm least sure of, of those I think have a good chance. But if it works, it could be awesome. Could be dismal too, though.

I cut out a few movies form the list, purely because I think they are too middle-of-the-road to be even worth a mention.

With the exception of Bond (and that's a maybe) that is truly depressing line-up.

Is there even an original film in there? One wonders for how much longer Hollywood can keep on regurgitating the same old formulaic crap aimed at adolescents.

2015 has some new movies but I listed those ones as they will be highly anticipated. :) Look at this year there's been movies like Need for Speed which is new to the big screen.

I'm pretty excited for Mockinjay Part 1 & 2, but having said that Mockingjay seems the least popular book and it all depends how the two are split. They might not necessarily be as successful as the first two films, because there is no 'games' and it basically turns into a war film. If done wrongly they could really mess it up. Of course they'll both make money though, but I wouldn't be surprised if we've already seen the best of the series.

I was under the impression Fox had scheduled Fantastic Four for 2015 so as to avoid losing the rights, but Marvel wanted Quicksilver and Scarlett Witch for Avengers: Age of Ultron, so they did a deal where Marvel could use the characters for Age of Ultron and Fox got longer to develop the property, so I would imagine that's likely to move before then...

Well clearly, it's not going to be a big year for originality then!
    This is all franchise cinema.

Most of them look like the same old trash that comes out every year.

Stars Wars will be interesting, amazing original trilogy, a complete failure of epic proportion on the second trilogy, but thankfully that talentless idiot Lucas will be off the job so thats something.

I want it to be great, I really do, but all I see is Jar-Jar........Darth Fail......Pod racing....stupid script......child like storyline.......CGI CGI CGI CGI EVERYWHERE!

That 'talentless idiot' did actually create Star Wars and directed the original movie.

Taken 3 - never seen the others
Amityville - Other remakes have been poor
Fifty Shades of Grey - GODS NO!
    Poltergeist - why remake it?
Ted 2 - No just no
Insidious: Chapter 3 - not seen the first 2
Fast & Furious 7 - I lost interets in the franchise
Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 - Another pointless sequel
Pitch Perfect 2 - not seen the first sounds rubbish
Jurassic World - Actually interested to see an update on this one
The Fantastic Four - NO NO NO NO NO! CAST SUCKS THE BIG ONE
Magic Mike 2 - Meh not seen the first
Terminator: Genesis - Will it bring back the greatness of the first 2?
Assassin's Creed - Excited for this one
Fifth Bourne movie - Let it die already
    Frankenstein - Unsure of this
The Conjuring 2 - want to see the first one so this might be good.
Bond 24 - Bond yay or not couldn' care less
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 - overrated
Star Wars Episode VII - I'll hold my breath and hope it's good
Mission: Impossible 5 - Boring films
Mad Max: Fury Road - Looks interesting and possibly good

Overall 2016 looks like a TERRIBLE year for movies. No originality except a couple of movies and one of them is soft core porn.

What a hideous sight. That reads like a list of films to avoid next year, or rather, films not to even contemplate in the first place. I don't think there's a single one on there that isn't a remake, reboot or sequel... many of them sequels to films that themselves are awful. An even bigger host of crap taking up cinema screens, maybe. There will be great films released next year, but they ain't them.

The amount of neagtivity on this thread is over-whelming. I'm looking forward to most these movies. Jurassic World and Star Wars Episode VII are the ones I'm most looking forward to.

No Avengers 2 in the list?

Also, you know it's April right, a little early for a "movies to look out for next year" list when the blockbuster season hasn't even begun this year, no?

Has the Superman/Batman film been put back a year?

eta - yes, according to imdb, I know it wasn't in the list, was just wondering

eta again - yeah, like a lot or peeps, that list is pretty poor for me personally, would have been interested in the new terminator but I've seen the cast list, jurassic park 3 was pretty weak, films like fifty shades and magic mike don't exist in my world.

With the exception of Star Wars which I will be going to see out of a sense of duty to the 5 year old me, there is no chance of me ever watching any of those films.

Anyone know if there is anything new out next year?

Relax people! The OP listed some of the movies he's looking forward to in 2015 and will probably do very well at the box office - that's all; other films will be released that year, and not all will be sequels or part of franchises. And just because a film isn't part of a franchise doesn't mean it's an original story/idea. Originality pretty much died decades ago, franchise or no franchise.

What's with all the negativity? You're more likely to hear about sequels, prequels and reboots beforehand because that's where all the momentum is, it doesn't mean there isn't anything original coming out. Studios generally don't start hyping up originals until the year of release, so we won't know a lot about them for a while.

I think 1999 is a year that will take a lot to be beaten - seems the millennium was a good opportunity to put huge effort into films to not only try and become the last classics of the 20th century but the first to come out on video in the 21st. American Beauty, Matrix, Fight Club, Being John Malcovich, Sixth Sense, Girl Interrupted, Green Mile, Blair Witch Project etc and the guilty pleasure of the much-maligned (but for me) deeply nostalgic Phantom Menance. Some of them actually came out in the UK in early 2000 but they were released elsewhere in '99 at least.

Then there's 1994, which doesn't seem to be for any particular reason and just a happy coincidence that it saw the likes of Shawshank Redemption, Pulp Fiction, Forrest Gump, Lion King, Four Weddings etc all in the same year.

Taken 3 - Liked the first one
    Amityville - Hit or Miss
Fifty Shades of Grey - I think it'll make Mills and Boone and Twilight pale in comparison to the corny
    Poltergeist - Meh remake
Ted 2 - it was overrated
Insidious: Chapter 3 - How many of these are they making?
Fast & Furious 7 - Not seen all the others
Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 - not seen the first
Pitch Perfect 2 - I found it alright but not as groundbreaking as everyone else
Jurassic World - could be pretty good IMO especially with how much 3Ds moved on up lately
The Fantastic Four - I'm a MCU fan but Jamie Bell as the Thing?! Really.
Magic Mike 2 - Attractive men will always sell well
Terminator: Genesis - could do well
Assassin's Creed - This I'm looking forward to! Love, love the games
Fifth Bourne movie - wasn't that keen on the fourth but I think Bourne movies are always pretty decent.
    Frankenstein - It'll be interesting
The Conjuring 2 - First one wasn't that scary but no doubt I'll see it
    Bond 24 - Definitely a must see
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 - Love the books and think they'll do well
Star Wars Episode VII - god I hope it's half decent this time.
    Mission: Impossible 5 - I can't stand Tom Cruise
Mad Max: Fury Road - could be decent

Now Avengers 2 and Star Trek 3 I'm looking forward to!

Well it's certainly going to be a huge year at the box-office:

Avengers 2, Bond, FF 7, Minions, THG & new Star Wars. These are probably the tentpole biggies - $800m+ with a few joining the club.

Of the other major releases (which is all this thread is about) I'm intrigued by Tomorowland, Brad Bird's SF feature that has a lot of mystery surrounding it, and - an early hot tip here - the disaster film genre gets a healthy hit with earthquake drama/adventure San Andreas, starring The Rock.

I'm certainly excited about the Star Wars movie. Going forward from the events of the original trilogy is a better prospect than the prequels, which were done badly in my opinion. I just hope JJ Abrams doesn't just do a kind of stunt-character movie, by which I mean bringing all the old characters back for the sake of it. If they form part of a good story, then fine, but resurrecting Han Solo, Luke Skywalker et al just to put bums on seats is a terrible idea.
