If you already have a Nexus 7, you'll love the Nexus 4 as they go very well together imo.
I don't think battery life is an issue at all, it recently came 3rd behind the Galaxy S4 and Xperia Z in a Which? Magazine battery test with the iPhone and Z10 trailing way behind.
The Nexus 4 is amazing value, and a brilliant buy, the battery lasts me a day with heavy use, but well over a day with light to moderate use. I haven't found it to be worse than any other modern smartphone.

Yes there is absolutely nothing wrong with the battery life of a nexus 4. If it's only lasting 3 hours then there is a fault or as I say some extenuating circumstance like being in a very low signal area ( try switching to airplane mode to rule this out )
Thanks for the replys. I think I will get the Nexus 4. The HTC Desire S I have the now is an ok phone but suffers from signal drop outs now and again.
Just one thing whats the signal like on the Nexus 4 and how easy is it to use it to text someone.
The Nexus 4 says out of stock on the 02 web site, yet my local 02 store had one on display last Saturday. Do you think my local 02 shop will have one even if the 02 web site says out of stock.

I get 3 to 5 hours screen time on mine depending on what i do, play a 3D game and whoosh its gone in less than 3 hours so i don't bother doing that any more. 5 hours is the absolute upper limit i have seen and there was zero games played to see that.
Mine is stock, screen on auto, and everything turned off when not needed, i never use bluetooth, hardly use GPS and turn the WiFi and data on when i need them although leaving WiFi on and data on doesn't make any difference to the standby time on mine if they are connected and not searching ill be honest ill be honest, turning them off is just force of habit on my part.
If i just mine as a phone with just the odd text or call then it lasts for ages, i went fishing the other day, took it off charge at 8am and at 9pm it still had 85% of the battery left.
install SnapDragon BatteryGuru on your Nexus 4 and you will find great improvement to battery life after it learns your style of use for a couple of days.

My battery life on my Nexus 4 is crap beyond belief. I am currently using CM10 and Franco kernel, but have also tried Paranoid Android and no difference.
I have push emails etc turned off, at the moment I am sitting at 49% thats from taking it off the charger at 7am, currently saying 20mins screen on time, thats how little I use the phone. I used to use my phones as MP3 players at work, I darn't even attempt it on this.

Like you my N4 has been off the charger since 7am. I am using stock Android with everything turned on (push email, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi...) with various apps running in the background and have used one hour screen time and I'm at 58% which suggests your phone maybe faulty.

Been off charge since 12pm when i woke up from night shift. Its now 00.18 and i have 72% left and screen on time is 1hour 18mins. In that time i have been surfing, whatsapping etc.
I use Francos Milestone 3 Kernel and MoDaCo Custom ROM JR11 long with that BatteryGuru from Qualcomm.

I can squeeze 2 days out no bother.
I can't be bothered with custom ROMs or disabling wifi and so forth but I do expect a phone to be able to comfortably get through a day without doing all that. Which to be fair the Nexus 4 usually manages.

Neither can i normally. I was just bored one day!
I dont disable wifi etc either. Everything is always on. But yeah, it usually manages a day on stock.
There is nothing wrong with the nexus 4 battery. Like most other smart phones it will probably last a day or 2 days on light usage.
But I don't think people realise how much being in a low signal area can effect things as the phone is constantly re-looking for a cell signal, even in standby.
Check your signal strength if you are having battery issues as this makes a huge huge difference
I been looking at online review and the Nexus 4 in most cases get an average 4 out of 5. They all talk about what the phone can do but dont really tell you what calling is like and about singal.
They also say when you get the Nexus 4 you are better to buy a case for it as the back of the Nexus 4 can scratch easy is this true.
I got the Nexus 4 the day and after just over 6 hours using it I seem very happy with it and so far the signal seems a little better on it than it was on my old just under 2 year old HTC Desire S.
Will see what the battery is like over the next few days. Im not a heavy user but would class myself as a moderate at times.
Interesting piece on the BBC's Click programme yesterday about extending battery life on smartphones - one thing that they mentioned was that composing & sending a text message would take more battery power than using a phone call to convey the message. The screen, being a real battery drain, remains illuminated whilst the text message is composed & sent, whilst it blanks when the make a call
Another point that they made is that using a smartphone in a car or on a train is likely to be a heavier drain than using one whilst stationary as the phone is constantly having to search & switch between cells

The advantage of being in the car or a train though is that I can sit with my phone plugged in.

Call quality and signal are fine. It's not so much that the back will scratch but being glass it's very slippery and has a habit of sliding off things so imo it''s worth having a gel case for £2-3 off Amazon.
The specs are high end and one the smoothest android phones you can get, and you get pure Android no crap ware and the guarantee that you be first to get os updates.
The only thing that are bad are ones the for me I've no interest in anyway. The camera isn't the best in the world. There is no facility for a micro SD. but for me this is no big deal on the 16 gig version. There is no LTE, but until this is readily available in the UK with sensible plans it's not a problem. I'll just wait for the nexus 4 v 2. In any case if you get a good HDSPA signal the speed is pretty good.

Sadly, others who use the train don't have that "luxury" if they are in crowded carriages and stood up (in fact, anywhere where they don't have access to a charging point, be it a car, coach, train, taxi .....).

I think the battery life is rather poor but then so is pretty much every other smartphone especially ones with big screens.
Darren
Are you buying it on contract?
If you are buying it outright, buy it direct from Google https://play.google.com/store/devices/details?id=nexus_4_8gb&feature=microsite&hl=en
Thanks for the link.

Agreed, it's been improved since I installed it.
That makes three of us.
Never heard of it but i am installing as I post this, thanks for the heads up!
Make that 4!
I have a custom ROM and kernel so already get great battery life but this has made it even better!!
