Would that not make for a really dull film?

We're the millers made us both laugh and seeing Jennifer Anniston in her frillies pole dancing is a treat as well

    Disney.

All of the disney films I can think of have some sort of conflict/ups and downs.

A film without any kind of change of emotional tone would be really dull. Stuff needs to happen in films for them to be interesting.

Completely agree. No story is just upbeat, unless it's for a two year old or something.

We went to the shop and got some apples then we went home and had tea - it was a looovely day:)

Hard to get through that one, far too constantly upbeat.

Mr. Bean's Holiday wasn't 100% upbeat with no negativity, but that's the closest to it I can think of at this moment. It's like Mr. Bean in general, goofy stuff with some minor worries, but you know it's Mr. Bean and it's going to turn out alright.

    Erm....Cool runnings

There's a bar fight and some people are accused of letting four black guys in a bobsled make them blush, but it's all good in the end

"in the end" is no good

the sound of music would have just been schmaltzy without the Nazi subplot. The majority of films work out "in the end"

Surely to have an uplifting story you need something negative to overcome? Otherwise it would just be a person sitting in a room smiling at the camera for 90 minutes

This is a tricky one. My immediate thought was 'Finding Nemo' but anybody seeing the first 5 minutes would think "You call this upbeat?" :)

There's also the shark attack and several near death bits.

Mama Mia is close though, if I remember rightly.
