Similar to the Julia Brogan thread did anyone else love "Bing" ? :D He was always so well-mannered and courteous, if a little old fashioned in his ways :D I loved the way he called everyone by their full names - "Beverley, Samantha, Jacqueline" :D

Here's an episode from 1996 where he's unknowingly walking around with orange hair :D

Sadly the actor John Burgess passed away in 2010, RIP :( A true Brookie great along with Gladys Ambrose.

Loved Bing, a proper old-skool gentleman.

Didn't Ron Dixon give him the 'Bing' nickname?

    I miss Brooky.

Anyone remember Ralph who lived with that nasty old git Harry Cross?

He was a proper gentleman too.

I think the chap that lived there in that bungalow before 'H' was Alan Partridge (not the Alan Partridge) - who later turned up in Emmy as Terry Woods' old fella.

What was the reason everyone left the close in the end?

All of houses got bought out by a big firm who wanted the land for use as a new waste plant. I can't remember the full details but over the last few months each different family sold up and moved out.

    Bing was brilliant!

As "chairman of the Residents' Association", he was always sticking his nose into other people's business.

Great character. I was glad he got a happy ending.

Harry and Ralph were a great double act.

And Alan Partridge owned a boat. I remember Damon Grant and his two feckless mates Ducky & Gizmo 'borrowing' it once.

Haha that rings a bell Gulfy, I remember Alan's missus being a good looking blonde called Samantha (I think?) too.

Back in 1985/86, I also remember Damon arguing constantly with Rod (the Plod) Corkhill over who went the match most, Damon at Anfield & Rod at Goodison.

Yet in RL, Damon was a blue & Rod was a red!

H had to save their programmes to determine the winner.
There was certainly no bias there as H hated the pair of them. :)

The Brookside Residents Association or B.R.A. to give it it's full title :D

It was a mercy killing. It had evolved into a grotesque parody of itself by the end.

    Bing was briiill...!!

I remember an ep where Jean was at deaths door and Bing, thinking she was going to pop off this mortal coil, decided to confess about all his dallying with several women during their marriage...
Bing then leaves the hospital room and Jean opens one eye... :)

I don't remember if she ever told him she knew or even got any revenge as I stopped watching it when Lyndsay Corkill became a gangsta... :(

I remember Jimmy always used to annoy Bing by insisting on calling it "the bra" :D I always remember him sitting in one meeting and in typical Jimmy fashion saying "I wouldn't mind being president of the bra" :D:D

And Jimmy Corkhill was the last to leave so he went round and flooded all the empty houses, then added a D to the Brookside Close sign, making it Brookeside Closed, classic ending.

I remember Bing being outraged when Beth Jordache came out as a lesbian.

He had to shut up when his wife, Jean, told him that she slept with a woman when she was younger.:D

    Brilliant character!

He and Julia Brogan were a funny duo. Julia always calling him 'Dave'

    'Yer alright Dave'

'The effrontery of the woman' ...

    ... was usually Bing's response. :D

Any time I hear the word 'effrontery' I think of David Crosbie.

Brookside was great. I didn't, however, like Bing or Julia much.

Me too. Its a shame Five couldn't have stepped in and got the show for themselves. Of course though, Family Affairs suffered the axe a few years later so maybe Brookside was unsavable.
