"Top Gear will return to BBC America on January 12.
Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May will kick off a new series of the show with a two-part special, filmed in Patagonia, South America.
The three presenters will be putting a Porsche 928, a Lotus Esprit and a Ford Mustang through their paces in this series opener.
The cars will face swamps, deserts, forests, beaches and ski slopes on the way to the southernmost city in the world.
They will also stage an epic game of car soccer against Argentina.
The last time Top Gear filmed in South America, it caused controversy when a car registration plate appeared to refer to the Falklands war, though Clarkson denied this."

Is this a Joke ? Badly researched would be understatement. .

Don't really understand the question and your quote doesn't quite match up to the text in the article. For example, you quoted:
The last time Top Gear filmed in South America, it caused controversy when a car registration plate appeared to refer to the Falklands war, though Clarkson denied this."
    but it actually says:
Top Gear's filming in South America caused controversy when a car registration plate appeared to refer to the Falklands war, though Clarkson denied this.

These shows have already been filmed and broadcast in the UK, this article is just reporting that they will be broadcast on BBC America.
