Brooke Vincent and Bruno Langley are both straight playing gay characters. Has a gay actor ever played a straight character?

    There have been some on US shows:

    James Mitchell who played Palmer Courtland on All My Children was gay in real life, then there is TR Knight who played George on Grey's Anatomy, Guillermo Diaz who plays Huck on Scandal, Tuc Watkins who played David Vickers on One Life to Live and don't forget Ellen's wife Portia de Rossi who played straight characters on Arrested Development and Scandal.

    The actor who played Danny Moon in Eastenders was gay in real life, and I'm pretty sure he was straight on the show.

    Loads I'm sure. A lot of gay actors are still reluctant to come out professionally in case it limits their roles. Though it's great that it's changing and seems less of an issue now.

    Kieron Richardson played Ste in Hollyoaks when he was initially shown as straight. He was always completely convincing as both straight and gay.

    God knows what Ste's meant to be now, but that's another story.

    On the other side of the coin-

    Marc Elliot is straight as is James Mason and Meyne Wyatt in Neighbours aka Chris and Nate are straight in real life.

    Pam St Clement (EastEnders Pat) is bisexual but as far as I know Pat only had an interest in men.

    Vas, the OP was asking for gay actors who have played straight characters, not the other way round. :)

    He does it well as well. Acting is acting- it's annoying when straight actors get praised for playing gay characters but gay actors get no praise for playing straight characters.

    HO has quite a few gay/bi characters but only Ste and presumably Scott are gay in real life.

    This isn't a soap but Neil Patrick Harris played womaniser Barney Stinson in HIMYM. He's probably one of the most convincing imo.

    Yeah he was/is great. I had no idea NPH was gay for years.
    I didn't know Michael French or Jeremy Sheffield were gay either.

    Jim parsons - Shelgon is straight
    The guy who played Noah Mayer in as the world turns

    Also if they aren't gay they could be bisexual playing a fully straight or gay character.
