As a big k-pop fan this kind of made me LOL, because their Korean isn't very good, very awkward and clunky, but fair play to them for giving it a go.

It seems a Korean group had done a version of 'Wings', so why not have the originators do it? It should be interesting to see how well this might do in the Korean charts and then what about Korean versions of DNA, CYL etc?
No, it's still about being 'big in Japan' and even more so since Japan's music market is on the verge of overtaking the US in overall size. The vast majority of K-Pop sales come from the success of K-Pop groups in Japan.
