Not at my local Odeon lol. The local arthouse cinema is getting it though, so all is good in my little world.
It's on at Cineworld Sheffield from Friday, so i'll be going to see it ASAP before the Daily Mail readers start jumping on the bandwagon and it gets pulled.
I admire LvT because he's not afraid to really mess with accepted cinema conventions and to push the boundaries - the whole Dogme thing produced a number of excellent films by him and others - but I have to admit I find his films hard going sometimes. Dogville seemed to go on forever and Breaking the Waves was ponderously slow.
Still, I'm keen to see Antichrist, although I don't think my OH would be impressed. Might have to see that one by myself
As usual with LvT, the emphasis is on theme and acting, though this is set in "the real world" rather than in the stage sets of Dogville and Manderlay. I saw it at Cineworld Haymarket, and the digital projection was excellent. The very cinematic scenes at the start of the film were absolutely stunning.
I'm not whether LvT is sexist in his films, or whether he simply has a poor view of both men and women. In a sense...
WdF's character brought the violence upon himself by suggesting that the child being made to wear shoes on the wrong feet may have been an element in his death.
It's very real sex. In black and white, with the Rinaldo: Lascia ch'io pianga aria by Handel playing. Highly artistic ****ing in close up. Bravo, 10/10.
The BBFC passed the X-rated version of Caligula last year which is basically an R18 movie but with an 18 certificate. You can get it at Blockbuster. And yes you see everything.
I saw this yesterday and i liked it. The graphic penetration shot at the start really wasn't necessary and just seemed to be there for controversies sake. However, the whole film was beautifully filmed and the two leads acted brilliantly, a scene of Willem Dafoe walking behind a coffin near the start was particularly empathetic. The story was also very clever and definitely not for people who have short attention spans. At my screening there were quite a few walk outs, and the general reaction from the audience at the end seemed to be negative, but if you go in expecting a tightly wound psychological thriller that treats the viewer as an adult then you should walk away satisfied.
I'm not too sure that the talking fox was such a good idea though, pretty much everyone thought that was hilarious.
And it's DEFINITELY NOT worse than Salo, Salo is a class of his own.
I've been thinking about watching Salo actually, is it any good? Part of me wants to watch it, but after reading that it has scenes were people actually eat excrement i'm not so sure (obviously it's not REAL excrement, but it's just the thought of it. The sick eating scene in Audition made me queasy as it is!). Does it actually have a story to it or is it just humiliation and torture for the sake of it?

I don't think Salo is worth the effort, no. It does have a point, but if you are in any way unsure about it, I wouldn't bother.
The shit eating isn't the worst part (there are several rape scenes).

Very much doubt it's real sex...

The BBFC have passed a number of films over the past few years at 18 that contain unsimulated sex so your "roll eyes" makes you look a bit of an idiot

I laughed at the fox and the bird, i do not think they were detrimental to the movie.
