Laptop keyboard problems

On my Lenovo 3000, c100 laptop I've got an odd thing happening.
When I press certain keys a number comes up instead of the letter I.e. press ' I' and the number 5 comes up. Help!!
Operating system is windows xp

    You have the num lock turned on.

    On a laptop you normally turn it off by holding the FN key and pressing one of the function keys - look for a symbol of a keypad or something like that.
