This is a really good reading of one of the best films out there.

You may be surprised that Any Defrane was actually only about 5'5 in the novella - not the same as Tim Robbins.

    I have listened to some of it. It is was very good. I always listen to BBC radio 4 extra for their plays.

    The screen adaptations of King's books are invariably better than the original works, in my experience.

    I wouldn't say that. Some of his books have been very successfully adapted but a good number have been very poorly received. It's a pretty hit and miss affair.

    I think the only examples I can think of where I personally would say the film exceeds the book though are Shawshank and Stand by Me , which being novellas gives room for the screenplay to expand on his vision rather than to try and condense it, which is so often the case. King is a very expansive and descriptive writer who goes heavy on characterisation. It makes it tough to adapt his work, imho.
