BBC entertainment channel just with adverts?

Could the BBC not just do this?

Keep the public service programs and news funded by a smaller license on non advert channels then just have a separate channel (or channels) with adverts for Eastenders, Strictly, Dr Who, Sports etc. Just like ITV

If the entertainment programs are indeed ratings winners then they'd generate the revenue needed to fund them.. Just like ITV seems to do.

I would prefer adverts on BBC rather than being forced to get a TV license every year

The perfect solution is minimal adverts - 1 or 2 only between programmes, not splitting programmes and films up to show adverts.

Just halve the licence fee and make up the rest with a few adverts.

There are plenty of threads about this in the broadcast section already without starting them here as well.

Well I'm not I to breaking the law so yeah I'm forced since I have a TV

If a law was made tomorrow ordering you to steal off old people would you do it?

The law supporting the BBC and its propaganda for the liberal elite is just as vile.

Subscription only would be the best way forward. Ditch the soaps, the talent shows and daytime crud and create a British version of HBO producing quality drama and documentaries for export as well as the domestic market with the profits ploughed back into production.

Split the news side of things out and keep a free to air news channel, also Radio 4 along with some regional stations, albeit with the number seriously reduced in order to raise quality. Online services to fall under this category too. Fund this directly from central government, but with neutrality strictly enforced and enshrined in an Act of Parliament.

The BBC needs to be reformed, but not at the cost of turning it into a dreckfest like ITV is.

If the BBC ran adverts, they'd have to answer to advertisers who'd want shows with the broadest appeal possible.

That means no more obscure documentaries on bbc4.

You may say 'well, I dont watch bbc4.' but that the beauty of the BBC. They try to have something for everyone....

It does not mean no more obscure documentaries on BBC4 at all!

Adverts are aimed at the viewers - plenty of things to be sold to Guardianista's who listen or watch old folk's programmes!

Cut the BBC down to 2 or 3 channels, a news channel, iPlayer and a handful of radio stations, and cut the price.

I finished watching that about three weeks ago. It was rather really good.
Just imagine your rage if I'd spoiled the entire show in here.

The commercial channels would be very upset as the advertising money would be split between the BBC and them, so reducing their income

Lord Reith said the purpose of the BBC was to “inform, educate and entertain”, not make programmes for any particular group of people.

I watch it, so do a large number of my friends and I guess we're not alone either. I suggest that if you find it too taxing to understand or too highbrow then you simply change the channel for something more akin to your tastes, maybe try ITV2.
