So desperate not to use the footage from the BBC that they wait for the guests to leave and then question them. What is the point?

Desperation, realisation that the BBC gets the good guests on a Sunday morning.

Don't know and as my idea of torture is Andrew Marr, I'm not going to lose sleep over it.

They want to ask their own questions rather than the BBCs.

I don't know how it works, but I'm assuming it saves paying for guests to come to their own studios. I have seen many times that they just interview people from their living rooms which looks sloppy.
