I'm not entirely convinced Federer cares as much about the #1 spot as many might think
Sure it'd be great to get it but he'd trade it all day long for winning his 18th slam I'd be fairly certain
As for his performance- it's Paris!! A tournament full of tanks, questionable motivation, guys halfway to the beach, players saving themselves etc. Nothing surprises me here
Jerzy Janowicz made a final here once it just about sums it up I think
WTF is wrong with Federer???>:( I've never seen him played this bad!!
You must have missed most of 2013 then! ;-)
I think he looked pretty flat and slow and the ball didn't have much pop on it, especially at the start.
May be getting used to the court and the change up from Basel too.

I think it's pretty important to him actually. He said himself if he hadn't of won Shanghai (which made number one possible) he would have maybe skipped Paris and only played the doubles with Stan in Basel to concentrate on the Davis cup and practise more on clay.
Instead, because number one is on the table he is playing it all. I think it does matter greatly to him, especially after the disaster of last year and everyone writing him off, to finish the year as the top player I think appeals a lot right now.
But last years winner is Novak, number one, so it's not a total tank event.
Does anyone know what on earth happened with Fabio Fognini and Calos Bernardes?
The UMPIRE refused to shake Fabio's hand, something I have never seen and then they left the court, still arguing!
I guess it was poor Carlos' turn to take it this time....

I'm just tired of his antics now. It's every time he loses, and sometimes when he doesn't.

Well you keep saying this again and again so I'll just repeat my response - I totally disagree - he wants it all right.

A little bit gutted as I now will not be attending the O2. Something has come up which means I just won't be able to go.
I was looking forward to seeing Federer, but such is life and this is more important.

The Swiss indoors has always been a bigger event than the Paris masters.
IF Murray finishes this event still ranked 5th in the Race he will end up being paired with Wawrinka so they cant be drawn in the same group (3rd and 4th seeds) in London
Maybe given Stan has been poor recently, he could do with finishing a position or two lower down so he has a chance of drawing him
Why is it players like Warwinka win a grand slam title, then play worse than ever never even to to return to the form they did in all the events before they won their grand slam title.
Is it that impossible for a Wawrinka type to win more than half their matches since the Australian open e.g.

It must be very difficult to reach the same hunger levels after winning that inaugural slam for quite some time. I can see the very same happening to Cilic
A good off season now for Stan and he may get that motivation back- he needs to go deep in Oz or else he'll find himself slipping down the rankings and facing harder draws
Contrast Murray's reaction in Melbourne between 2010 and 2013. The former he was in bits, the latter he seemed glad to be there. Mad
I've often felt Novak and Rafa haven't been 100% pushed about W;don in recent times after landing titles there earlier in their careers- still doesn't stop Novak going very deep and even winning it though, which is more down to him being a brilliant overall player than being extremely hungry I'd say. Once he got to the final this year he really upped his level. Saying that I think this huge level of hunger that appeared in the final was a by product of losing a few slam showpieces on the trot. At the Wimby final 12 months earlier he didn't look near as hungry
^^^ In saying that Stan was always a pretty enigmatic player. He found a superb level of consistency in melbourne which he hadn't really found before or since. It's not all that much of a shock he's been up and down lately, he was like that pretty much all the time until 2013
He might have a crack again at one more slam though I suspect subconsciously he may well be satisfied with the one, which is still a massive achievement in this era
Hmm, not sure what to make of that clip. It's obviously bad that the lineswoman got hit by the racquet, and I think the disqualification was fair enough, but was it really as bad as she made it look? From the slow-mo it's doesn't seem to hit her with that much force - certainly not enought to leave her sat on the floor for as long as she did. I'm sure it did hurt, and would have been a shock, but I thought she milked it a bit.
Maybe i'm just a hard-faced meany and am doing her a disservice!

I agree. Her reaction was a bit OTT as it looked like the tennis racquet just bounced off her lightly. It looked like she was pretending to twist her knee as well. She will probably be wearing a neck brace for her next match and carrying a walking stick. Where there's blame there's a claim.

It's just boring now.
. Well then...
Neither can I! - I think you are probably the only one on here.
Not in that cubicle it didn't.
I know what you mean, I miss Paris being lightening quick, before it was really quick, much more fun for tennis IMO.
I was looking forward to seeing Federer, but such is life and this is more important.
I hope everybody going has an amazing time!

Memories of Nalbandian at Queens.
Now a WTF place is on the line of course he'll come out all guns blazing. His followers must be driven daft!

I think I heard they're the same speed more or less as London. Pity

I nearly wrote the very same thing!
What an awful time of it he's having
Will probably just give a token effort at WTF's too with Davis Cup looming
