Sky has now bowed to pressure and will launch a Mobile Phone service in 2016 using the 02 network

If Sky and Telefonica have done a deal for wholesale access to Telefonica's network then I think it can be assumed that any 3 takeover of O2 is a separate issue that wouldn't affect that deal.
At least Sky didn't go with Vodafone who are the worst of the lot.

Bowed to pressure? From who?
A lot depends on where you live though. Round my way O2 and Vodafone are the only networks that have 100% 4G coverage. EE has around 60% and 3 has yet to provide a 4G service.
Virgin, BT and TalkTalk, all who offer or plans to offer Quad play services
The British public who would like to buy Quad play services, I think this is where we are headed at the moment
