Audio problems with Sharp HT-SL50

Was wondering if anyone has seen similar problems to me (and if anyone has a workaround).
Recently bought a Sharp HT-SL50 Soundbar and connected it to my TV via HDMI using ARC. I am now finding that when I stream some video files to the TV the sound coming out of the soundbar is just a pulsing static noise. If I remove the soundbar and just user the TV speakers then it all works ok.
Can anyone suggest why this would be. Could it be that the soundbar supports different sound codecs to the TV and the sound is being sent over the HDMI cable without being decoded?
I am confused.
Thanks,
Rob

Loud clicks/bangs and garbled noise.
I changed the sound output on my TV from AUTO to PCM only and it's been fine since.
I don't think it's a very advanced soundbar. Probably not much more than an amp and a basic 2.1 speaker config in a pretty box. It won't decode 5.1 output.
