Probably going over old ground but just watching Vienna new year concert and comparing HD quality between BBC feed and ZDF ( both channels using a kathrein sat box) and zdf wins hands down in video quality

What does that have to do with Freesat recorders though? This really belongs in Broadcasting doesn't it?

I didn't think the BBC was up to it's usual standards either. Can't comment on ZDF as I don't have the needed sat kit lol

Don't forget that the BBC uses 1080i and ZDF (and most German channels) use 720p - this can result in a difference in fine detail especially with fast moving images within a frame.

Except you can't see the fine detail if it's fast moving :D

Presumably the difference is down to the excessive compression used by the BBC?, having crippled the satellite broadcasts down to terrestrial 'quality'.
