Before deciding my top 100 songs of the 60s, I anticipated 1968 being my fave year. I think I had a soft spot for 1968 as my nos 1, 3 and 7 came from then. In practice, 1967 was the most represented year with no fewer than 22 entries! I guess the variety of music must have hit an all-time high then. Indeed, about 7 years ago Radio 2 did a survey of people's favourite year for music, and Simon Mayo broadcast the results one Bank Holiday, when 1967 was revealed as the public's most popular year for music.
About 1968, I reckon on deciding my fave 30 or 40 songs from that year one Bank Holiday next year.
I am a man of my word, and today being the August Bank Holiday I have just decided what my top 30 songs of 1968 are. I shall try and work out which months or charts were best, unless any of you like MushymanRob or Vabosity already know....

1968 is one of my least favourite years of the sixties, but like every other year in that musically blessed decade it still had more than its fair share of classic tracks.
I like the vast majority of the tracks in your Top 30, but the inclusion of the above track in it indicates to me that you have not heard this differently titled original version, which as far as I'm concerned is far superior:-

I suddenly notice that none of us have added to this thread recently. Well, I have some news with a strong 60s connection. I decided my top 40 songs from 2004-13 today, and these included a certain Sir Paul McCartney with New, from 2013. Considering that, among other achievements, I Feel Fine (from 1964) became my no 2 song from the 60s, this must make Macca my favourite long-term musician of my life!

Marianne Faithfull had four top ten hit singles during the sixties. I'm surprised to find that only "As Tears Go By" (see above) has been featured in this thread.

"Where Have All The Good Times Gone" was the "B" side of the top ten single "Till The End Of The Day", but it's such a good track that had it been the "A" side I think it would also have made the top ten.
