Sky+ Box Problems

Sky+ box has developed some odd problems.

From time to time it refuses to record, the record button on the remote doesn't do anything. Unplugging the box and restarting fixes it.

Boot up time seems very long - takes about 3-5 minutes (varies) before you can get the green light on but then seems OK except as above.

Rang Sky but they just went through the usual switch off, card out etc. etc which fixed it for a short time then back to 1st problem.

I wondered if the HDD was dying so replaced it but things still seem much the same.
Any ideas? Or is it time for a new one (rather poor just now unfortunately).

It could be a power supply problem (ageing capacitors) ...

As mentioned by the 2 posters above, bad capacitors on the PSU board could be the problem.

Have a look & see if any of the tops of the electrolytic capacitors have bulging tops, or any brown gunge escaping from the tops or bottoms of the capacitors.

Before that, try mentioning what make and model it is :D
