She was on RTE Radio a short while ago : she said she cannot reveal the theme or song choice but then dropped a strong hint she would be belting out a big Shirley Bassey number.

    No she didn't.

Frank Kelly (a.k.a Fr Jack) suggested she should sing that song at some point as it suited her voice.

Nice to see Mary stepping outside of her comfort zone..that will show everyone that she isn't a mere one-trick pony.

Smart move. With Matt and Rebecca peddling same old/same old week in and out it's unlikely Mary will be criticised by the judges for returning to what she does best.

You must have missed the earlier part of the interview GFE (before the news break).A caller suggested she should sing 'Goldfinger' and Mary then dropped a strong hint that a Bassey song was on the cards and that she would be "absolutely belting it out" :)

She's on 1% of the DS poll after singing three post-1994 songs in a row.More power to her I say : she has nothing to prove to anyone here as they have already given up on her.

Almost as shocking as Rebecca singing a jazzy ballad Nina Simone style,Matt with a song that has a lot of falsetto in it or Cher rapping in the middle of one of her tracks :D

    She "who has nothing":D

Final performance coming up by the looks of it, needs to go out with a bang and a gust of wind.

People better check the weather reports for hurricanes at the weekend, and batton down the hatches, as Mary is planning to destroy London with her "unique" voice.

    It's like her committing Hari-Kari.

Yes, it's about time Mary got to play to her strengths like every single other contestant. Simon's attempt to get rid of her has been a complete failure. Might as well hive her fans what they want just like all the other contestants are allowed to do.

Shirley Bassey?Maybe it's a "songs from the movies" theme?

    Hopefully "Born Free" for Wagner?:D

Exactly : and if fans want to label her a one trick pony, they should be aiming their sights equally at Rebecca,Matt and Cher then.

I don't see the slightest problem with her going back to her niche songs again. She moved outside her comfort zone for the last three weeks.
